A collection of great quotes and a special thank you to all our veterans past and present.

TOPICS: Your Opinion/Questions
KEYWORDS:
The soldier above all others prays for peace, for it is the soldier who must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war.
-Douglas MacArthur

Soldiers usually win the battles and generals get the credit for them.
- Napoleon Bonaparte

The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave...
--Patrick Henry--

Soldiers are men...most apt for all manner of services and best able to support and endure the infinite toils and continual hazards of war.
--Henry Knyvett

Some people live an entire lifetime and wonder if they have ever made a difference in the world, but the Marines don't have that problem.
--Ronald Reagan--

People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.
--George Orwell

"Americans, indeed all freemen, remember that in the final choice, a soldier's pack is not so heavy a burden as a prisoner's chains."
~ Dwight Eisenhower

"From the time I was twelve years old until I retired last year at the age of fifty-seven, the Army was my life. I loved commanding soldiers and being around people who had made a serious commitment to serve their country."
~ Norman Schwarzkopf

"One of man's finest qualities is described by the simple word " guts "—the ability to take it. If you have the discipline to stand fast when your body wants to run, if you can control your temper and remain cheerful in the face of monotony or disappointment, you have " guts " in the soldiering sense. This ability to take it must be trained—the training is hard, mental as well as physical. But once ingrained, you can face and flail the enemy as a soldier, and enjoy the challenges of life as a civilian."
~ Col. John S. Roosma

It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.
George S. Patton

Maybe you can add some more.

You are the heroes of our generation- A Salute to Veterans of Vietnam

It is more difficult to do your duty and serve when the cause is suspect or reviled by many- as was the case in Vietnam. It is harder to return home to abuse and guilt-tripping instead of accolades and parades. The best in my generation served honorably to defend against the spread of communism even tho I wasn't one of them. I see that now tho at the time I did not- while comfortably parked in an elite college in the SF Bay area. We owe you all a tremendous debt of gratitude and praise for the good that was accomplished by your service and your sacrifices. Southeast Asia was spared further ruination under the great 'liberation' of the communists. Today those economies and political systems are known as the Tigers and are economic powerhouses in free societies. None of this would be the case if you had not served our nation's fight for freedom. You won the war to stop communism even if the battle for Vietnam was lost here at home. YOU WON THE WAR TO STOP COMMUNISM!! Its momentum was checked there in that theater and it did not relentlessly continue its advance around the world. This was the decisive battle that led to the end of the Cold War aka WW III. It left a legacy in that region which is serving us today as we confront the islamofascist beast in Southeast Asia. The forces we and our allies bring to bear against this evil are vastly stronger because of your great efforts.

I want to extend thanks to you and all who served in Vietnam because you left us stronger as a nation. Your honor is restored by the great victory of President Bush, conservative values, and the Republican Party. I am deeply sorry it took so long for you to get your due. Kerry and the communists who stole the win in Nam are proven to be losers and their cause is doomed. Hail veterans on this your day of honor! You can proudly take your place amongst all the great generations of our fair land. God bless you and God continue to bless America as we face the challenge of this generation- crushing the islamofascist enemy together.

"They were no supermen, nor were they endowed with any supernatural qualities of heroism. They were merely top-notch American lads, well trained, well treated, well armed and provided with superb ships."

~Charles A. Lockwood
