"We were directed by the state to take the boys to a psychiatrist," Downey says. "We did and they all came back on three meds...those boys no more needed meds than I did."
This horses**t has got to stop.
Related thread:
As for the polypharmacy (the use of a number of medications), this is certainly not proper care.
However, I am not sure who is willing to treat or even care for these kids, many of whom are completely unmanagable.
Also the most disturbed kids bounce from home to home, from facility to facility, from one geographical location to another. Along the way, they see a large number of different professionals, often on an emergency basis. I doubt that any kid is on 17 medications. This is probably a collection of all the different unsuccessful meds tried on the unfortunate child.
I'd like to know if the "docs" are getting a kick back from the drug companies for the script.
These kids are seen in Medicaid clinics and emergency rooms. No one else is willing to see them. No "kick backs."
bump!
I'm sure there's lots of overuse of these medications. But there's a harsh reality behind the trend toward using these drugs for "behavior control" rather than to treat "mental illness". There is a huge number of wildly out of control kids who've been seriously abused and neglected, and become so difficult to manage, that unless they're drugged into a stupor, nobody is willing to have them in their homes. What are we supposed to do with them? Stick them -- drug-free -- in padded rooms in psych hospitals and forget about them forever?
My impression of many ADHD boys is that they are just boys.
I'd work with their nutrition and natural methods before I'd give these kids drugs and make them addicts for life... or does our governement want a society of stepfords they can mold to think as they deem fit instead of for themselves.
That is, after all, what used to be done. Or the incorrigible children were beaten to death in an attempt to instill discipline.
everyone from the top down that had a hand in this s**t needs to go to f**king prison and not ever get out. This is child abuse and attempted murder. Most adults on three meds have to be watched constatly becasue the become so zonked out they are at risk of choking to death on thier own saliva and a bunch die every year in institutions from exactly that. This is messed up but then again this might be the only way for these children to be able to sit still long enough for a D.A.R.E. meeting where the good goverment officials lecture children about how bad drugs are(that the pharmacys and goverment cant make money on) and they should never do them.
WHO is going to work with these kids through "nutrition and natural methods"? There are tens of thousands of these kids and they're lucky if they get stuck in a home with at least one marginally functional adult and get shoved out the door to the local public school every morning -- where they have access to all the crap food that every American child who isn't VERY closely supervised has access to. They also have access to all the video games their schoolmates haul around (and probably in their foster home too), and to all the violent, fast-moving, brain-damaging junk that American TV and radio provides.
I understand what you're saying... but, drugs isn't the answer to the problem. Schools can start by ridding campuses of junk food and even, perhaps, making certain they get a decent breakfast before classes... I know if we don't solve the problem this country is in bigger trouble than anyone realizes.
Just seeing this. Saved and thanks for the flag! ggrrrr....
I will have to come back to this. It just makes my blood boil, I could only read bits at a time. THIS:
'Dr. Tony Appel replies, "I don't think they're treating mental illness. Not in these kids."
'Child advocates in Florida have been trying to get laws passed to protect children from being over medicated. So far, they haven't been successful. They blame the doctors and pharmaceutical companies who've lobbied against them.
"We don't deal with the problems these kids have. We give them a pill," says Dr. Tony Appel, a neuropsychologist or brain specialist who was one of the expert child advocates in Florida we went to for help. We showed her the records we uncovered here in Texas.
Tanji Patton asks, ***"Does it look like the kids are being treated for behavior control or mental illness?"
Dr. Tony Appel replies, "I don't think they're treating mental illness. Not in these kids."
Tanji says, "Psychiatrists and people on the other side will say 'these are sick kids. I mean ****these are kids who've been sexually abused..they need medication.'"
Dr. Tony Appel explains, "Being sexually abused makes you a victim. It doesn't make you sick."
It's enough to make a preacher swear. A lot of these kids are sexually abused when they are put in 'the care' of the nanny state. This reminds me of an article I was reading about electro-shock (I will have to dig it out). One of the first things this doctor says when he is told about a patient 'needing' electro-shock is, 'WHAT IS IT THAT THEY NEED TO FORGET?'
DANG. JUST DANG. Maybe the truth is finally starting to come out about all of this.
BTW. God works in mysterious ways. I found this by doing a google search for my posts on the link in #3. I was going to link THAT to the following:
Rush Limbaugh's case may head to Florida's high court

I haven't followed Rush's case at all, but my initial reaction was that the Hegelian dialect was probably at play. I am even more inclined to think so now. The NWO said they would build FROM THE BOTTOM UP, rather than a frontal approach. It's like a giant puzzle. They put all the pieces in place; then they spring.
I'm not sure if anyone posted a link to this:
