Putin pleased with Bush victory
Vladimir Putin (left) and George W Bush stand firm against terror Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent congratulations to George W Bush on his re-election as US President. Mr Putin said he hoped to strengthen relations between Russia and the US during Mr Bush's second term.
The relationship between the two has grown since the 11 September attacks, with Russia becoming a firm partner in the fight against terror.
Mr Putin wants to see "increasing bilateral co-operation in the fight against international terrorism".
In his message to the president, he said: "I expect that in the coming four years, we will rely on the solid basis established by our joint efforts, to continue our fruitful joint work in strengthening and expanding the multifaceted partnership between Russia and the United States."
Mr Putin also said the two countries should work to develop "mutually beneficial trade and economic links and contacts between our societies and people".
Joy
Immediately after Mr Bush's victory on 2 November, Mr Putin said he believed "international terrorism had a goal of frustrating Mr Bush's victory in the election".
He said Osama Bin Laden's statement in the final phase of the US presidential race "showed it in bold relief".
"I can only feel joy that the American people did not allow themselves to be intimidated, and made the most sensible decision," he said.
Analysts say one reason for the strengthening of the relationship between Mr Putin and Mr Bush is because they see the war on terror in the same stark terms.
The Bush administration's criticism of the Russian military's behaviour in Chechnya has been notably more restrained since Russia became a key partner.
Good ol Pootie Poot
Putin is old-school KGB and not to be trusted. Screwed us once with intelligence provided and pushing notion that Iraq threat imminent, then not working with us in UN. Crap pulled on us by France, Russia, and Germany reminds me of setup in "Sum of All Fears".
It was highly unlikely that Putin would said he was displeased with Bush's re-election. Did anyone think he'd say he was as hell and having a fit over it?
"...with Russia becoming a firm partner in the fight against terror..."
I haven't heard much about any Russian contributions to the war on terror. Haven't even heard of any realtiation for Beslan yet, either. So I wonder how this 'firm partner' statement is justified.
This is a lesson in history all Lefty's should be paying attention to. Once our enemy and now our working partner Russia felt the terrorist threat first hand with that school massacre. The US as any other country finds partners where they can and if those partnerships no longer work that very same country can become a enemy. Take France for istance, we saved their asses in WWII and now we are no longer friends. Chirac would rather be seen in the company of the "Father or Modern Terrorism" than at the funeral of the world leader who brought an end to the arms race with the Soviet Union. How about Japan, once the perpertrator of the worst attack on the US is now one of our closest allies becuase situations change with time as does the nature of the United States relationship with other world powers.
Liberals should just finally accept the fact they know literature, they know the enviroment, but they have no clue about international relations, economics, or how to and when to wage war.
Putin is a weasel waiting for a chance to attack America.
