Hitchens is amazing. Before this election, I never thought he or I would have anything in common, but he has been a staunch defender of Bush's foreign policy this year. I've heard him several times on television defending President Bush; however, I thought that I read on Slate that he voted for Kerry?

Most of all, in my opinion, the Democrats have failed to find a non-squeaky voice in which to speak about the real menace of religious bigotry, which faces us on the streets of London and Amsterdam as well as New York and Washington, and celebrates a cult of death on video.

That is the gut-check line for me in this article. Hitchens has become one of the many eloquent voices formerly from the left who has seen the light and crossed over to our side on some of the important issues of our day. It has cost him with his former "friends", who are unhinged in their scathing (and public) denunciations of him.
