"While Michael Moore, Jesse Jackson, Jon Bon Jovi, Ben Affleck and Bill Clinton (who left my university without being able to take his degree) strike me as having a long way to go before they even attain intellectual mediocrity." And heck, now that we know W. has a higher IQ than Kerry, we'll put old horseface in the above category as well!

And whether it is Saturday night or Sunday morning, I can usually get my right-wing friends on the phone without finding that they are chanting or moaning in some church or temple.ROFL!!!
*******
But when I get my left-wing friends on the phone these days, all I hear is sobbing and moaning.

I am not ready to be patronised, or condescended to, unless by someone of some eminence who has earned that right. And even then I regard it as a sign of weakness rather than strength.
Now that gets my vote for one of the top 100 sayings of all time.

THE fact is that the Democratic Party, built on an old coalition of heavy-industry unions, the liberal middle-class and a majority of blacks and Jews, is failing to reproduce itself demographically. Hitchens is amazing. Before this election, I never thought he or I would have anything in common, but he has been a staunch defender of Bush's foreign policy this year. I've heard him several times on television defending President Bush; however, I thought that I read on Slate that he voted for Kerry?

My favorite phrase from this piece is "conceited nonentities."
I think that's a perfect encapsulation of who Bush's opponents were during this election cycle.

For many years, I have respected Christopher Hitchins because he is true to himself. He thinks things through, I may not always agree with him, but his is always a well-reasoned argument. It blows my mind that he has had this change of heart toward Socialism & has become one of the few vocal supporters from the left of Bush. Democrats have aborted themselves out of power.

He's going to be another Bernie Goldberg, cast out of the liberal rank and file for telling the truth.

Wouldn't a front line fighting darwinist be an oxymoron?

"Confronted in this way, I have to say that I don't feel myself in the presence of genius at all. While Michael Moore, Jesse Jackson, Jon Bon Jovi, Ben Affleck and Bill Clinton (who left my university without being able to take his degree) strike me as having a long way to go before they even attain intellectual mediocrity." That's very true. Liberals never fail to deliver new nadirs in cultural and intellectual mediocrity.

Most of all, in my opinion, the Democrats have failed to find a non-squeaky voice in which to speak about the real menace of religious bigotry, which faces us on the streets of London and Amsterdam as well as New York and Washington, and celebrates a cult of death on video. That is the gut-check line for me in this article. Hitchens has become one of the many eloquent voices formerly from the left who has seen the light and crossed over to our side on some of the important issues of our day. It has cost him with his former "friends", who are unhinged in their scathing (and public) denunciations of him.

Perfect to print out, frame, and post in a prominent place -- so that my leftie in-laws, when they come to visit, can't avoid viewing it.
Re the Democratic Party, built on an old coalition of heavy-industry unions, the liberal middle-class and a majority of blacks and Jews, is failing to reproduce itself demographically : How true and how ironic it is that blacks and Jews (secular leftist Jews, not Orthodox) have aborted millions of their own over the last 30 years. Their killed progeny could have contributed significantly to their political base.
And union membership numbers are way down. Why? Unions have hoist themselves on their own petard by getting too greedy and causing manufacturing jobs to be transferred overseas.
