ALBANY - New York Republicans don't have a lot of time to bounce back from their drubbing at the polls last week: The race against Senator Clinton is just two years away.

Defeating the former first lady, or at least tarnishing her image, will be a priority for Republicans nationwide in 2006, given Mrs. Clinton's status as the Democrats' early front-runner for president in 2008.

I see what you are saying and I am admittedly cynical about this.

Best thing would be Hilly abandons seat, Pataki wins it, and Rudy and Hilly run for their respective party nominations.

I still don't think Hilly has 'it' - while the media and party darling now, my gut tells me she will (amazingly) be challenged for the nomination not from the right of her party, but from the left.

The conventional wisdom for the dems, as I have said since the day after election day, is that they lost big in 2004 because they were not liberal enough. Sounds crazy, but its true! ;-)

Oh, it's nothing exciting, really...

I grew up in NYC, practically a lone conservative voice in the wilderness. I have been called every name in the book because of my "get your hands out of my pockets and get the hell out of my way" beliefs.

I have held my nose and voted for more RINOs than I can count, hoping against hope that MAYBE the RINOs would turn out to be better than I expected. I have been disappointed every time. I'm done voting for RINOs.

I want to vote for a REAL GOPer, not a RINO. Pataki's a RINO and he won't get my vote.

Regards,

PS: I don't think Pataki can beat Hillary, anyway. Rudy MAYBE, but I wouldn't go to the bank on that, either.

Pataki is also my choice, 4 term governors are extremely rare.

Yes well can't he take the seat and then run for the Presidency for '08? Too much too fast?

That way he'd knock Hillary out of the picture and set himself up nicely for the Presidency, if that's his intention.

This is all very interesting!

Could be. I still expect the dem mentality to be that they havent been liberal enough, though. Wait and see, and keep the faith!

Maybe Pelosi will challenge Hitlery for the nomination in 2008, that would be funny as hell to watch.

well, you aren't going to get a real GOPer here. you know that. so if you want to exercise your vote in that manner, you should consider moving to another state. if you decide to stay, at least try and help us get someone in there who is better then Hillary.

Oh, I KNOW his "Republican" senate is overriding him.

But let's face it -- Pataki and Silver and Bruno are all scratching each other's backs. They crack their little whips and all their little minions jump to do the bidding of their masters. I'm tired of it. I'm TIRED of voting for RINOs, and will not do it anymore.

That's all.

Regards,

I think that Ed Koch should be "rewarded" for his support of Bush with massive donations to challenge Hitlery for the senatorial nomination in 2006.

I looked at the Presidential race returns. George W. Bush substantially improved on his 2000 showing in New York, cutting the Democrat margin by 500,000 votes. Did all of that improvement take place in Upstate New York?

Yes, oceanview, I know.

I know getting a real GOPer is a pipe dream here in NY, and while I'm still here I promise to keep badgering the "representatives" that we have in the Senate (no use even attempting it in the Assembly) to be more conservative.

But, I just CAN'T vote for these guys anymore. We just don't believe in the same things.

Regards,

"The name I've heard the most is Governor George Pataki. And he hasn't ruled it out."

I'm not so sure that Pataki would beat Hillary, since his support is a mile wide and an inch deep. I think we need Rudy to run.

But if Rudy passes on the Senate race and decides to run for the governorship instead, I guess Pataki would have to do. Hopefully Rudy and Pataki would complement each other and lead them both to victory. While neither of them will motivate conservatives to go out and vote, I hope the fact that Hillary is running will help the GOP GOTV effort.

Koch is too old, and he is supporting Hillary for president anyway.

if its not Rudy or Pataki - then we need some kind of celebrity candidate. Joe Torre maybe? I don't know.

'Ma' Pelosi is a riot, no question! It's amazing she won't face a serious challenge for her House Minority Leadership for the next term.

'Ma' Pelosi has had me in stitches with her references to religion in the last week. Talking about how environmental concerns are a christian value, etc. It's amazing that these folks think they can just adopt the language of more religious types (language they would have fits over if a GOPer used them) and 'trick' those Red State morons into liking them.

They are morally bankrupt. I do have some affection for 'Ma's' daughter, Alexandra, who documented the 2000 Bush campaign in her film 'Journeys With George.' That movie made Dubya look like such a nice fella, even horsing around with her - an avowed liberal who dislikes him politically - to look warm, personable, & sincere. I think he even won Alexandra over (on a personal level), though she didn't vote for him.

Alexandra's new film, which followed the 2004 dem primary, was a huge letdown, mostly because the guys she followed were just not as warm, sincere, or interesting as Dubya.

Bush won staten island, and I hear that with all the absentee ballots, may win suffolk county by a handful of votes.

I hate RINOs too, but remember that you are in New York State and the Senate election will pit someone with an R next to his name versus Hillary Clinton. Heck, I'd vote for Lincoln Chafee over Hillary just to see her lose.

And as liberal as Pataki and (especially) Giuliani are, their voting record would be leagues better than that of Hillary. At the very least they would vote for tax cuts, for aid to our troops and to end filibusters of judicial nominees.
