An Islamic court in northern Nigeria has discharged and acquitted a pregnant teenager of her conviction for adultery, for which she had been sentenced to be stoned to death.
Presiding judge Muhammad Mustapha Umar of the Upper Sharia court said on Wednesday that the lower Sharia (Islamic law) court was wrong in sentencing Hajara Ibrahim, 18, to death by stoning last October.
"This court observes the following faults in the lower court judgement. Firstly, the judge was wrong in sentencing Hajara to 100 lashes and death by stoning, all at the same time," he said.

The religion of peace. Right....
Yeah - what the heck was the court thinking?!
"Firstly, the judge was wrong in sentencing Hajara to 100 lashes and death by stoning, all at the same time,"
Yes, yes I see. She needed to be sentenced to the 100 lashes and then after those had been administered, assuming she survived, she could be sentenced to death by stoning.
Can't we stone her just a little?
Maybe just one stone.
He (the judge) opted "for the 100 lashes before he opted against the 100 lashes"
He must be a new judge. The other murderous wretches know well enough that you can't stone someone to death if they die while receiving lashes.
Stupid new judge, makes the rest of the zealots look foolish.
Ain't it the truth!!
This is correct. She did not commit adultery; she committed fornication. Additionally, there would be no justification for punishing the child with death for the crime of her father and mother.
Can anyone tell me how this whipping deal works? I thought that 20 lashes in the British navy was considered a life threatening punishment. Do they do it segments or is it done in a way that is less traumatic? 100 lashes sounds like death sentence to me.
I predict this girl will end up in a ditch or shallow grave very shortly...vigilante justice.
Get to know Sharia...you may need talk your way out of it as it may be coming to a neighborhood near you!
