USA TODAY COLUMNISTS: DEMS CONFUSED: Even though I rarely agree with him - Walter Shapiro - has penned a piece in the USA Today that is worth examining - particularly if you plan on ever voting Democrat in the near future...

Shapiro has accurately pinned the problem of the Dems as being fundamentally an identity crisis.

Are they the -
PARTY OF CULTURAL PERMISIVENESS: To be honest I think this is the faction that surrenedered any chances of victory in this year's election. And if it continues - look for more states to turn red in 08.

ANTI-WAR PARTY: Michael Moore and Howard Dean - now that's a proven record of what NOT to run on. And this faction has no chance of winning as long as the threat of terrorism looms.

PARTY OF ECONOMIC JUSTICE: Economic Justice? That is the Republicans now - you know - let the tax-payers keep the money they earn? And when they do they stimulate the economy and grow the jobs market...

PARTY OF THE STATUS QUO: Social Security, Health Care, Yawwwwwn - yeah these are hot burner issues...

Even though Shaprio seems to articulate the wings of the party well - I don't see ANY way that any one of these wings can pick up the mandate that would give them a majority...in fact without morphing any or all of these wings into something else - they will not win again at all in the near term...

AND FOR BALANCE: The USA Today ran Jonah Goldberg's newest - who again reinforces the QUITE OBVIOUS truth that the Democratic party has no clue as to what they need to do as a party to embrace the voters who voted on VALUES issues. His observations are worth the entire read...

Democrat leadership and party hacks are lazy. It's too easy to just dust off the "Whitey will burn your church down" to the blacks, "Conservatives will leave you nothing to eat but dogfood" to the elderly, "Republicans will make you choose between eating dogfood and paying for your prescription drugs" to the elderly on prescriptions, "Conservatives will poison the water" to the enviro-weenies, "Republican extremeists will kill our oceans" to the animal rights bunch, "Bush will force right wing christian ideology on the rest of us" to those of other faiths or indifference to religion, "Bush will make our kids stupid and our teachers bankrupt" to the education crowd, And "Republicans will sit with their fat-cat corporate crook friends by the poolside counting their untaxed millions while you see your 401K disappear" to the unions and anti business bunch.

It's just too easy. Like shootin fish. And the people who fall for this crap would definately be shocked and confused at how Bush would win. To become unshocked and confused would mean they'd have to come to grips with being lied to by their party for thirty years.

" ... have to come to grips with being lied to by their party for thirty years."

That is such a good point .. it needed to be repeated.

Do you think Hillary will be capable of bringing this group of misfits together ..?? Or .. will the discovery by some of being "lied to" even fracture the party more ..??
