VANCOUVER - Prior to the U.S. election, polls indicated most Canadians were crossing their fingers for John Kerry to defeat George Bush in the presidential race. But Vancouver immigration lawyer Rudy Kischer wasn't one of them.
"Bush's election is bad for the world in a lot of respects. But in some respects, from a business point of view I think it will be good for us."
And so far it has been. Kischer says his firm has been approached by dozens of Americans unhappy with Bush's election win.
"At the office we're calling them the Bush Refugees."
There have been so many that inquiries that the Embarkation Law Group is planning how-to-come-to-Canada seminars for people in Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Kischer believes people are genuinely serious about making the move. He says his firm charges for consultations and Americans are paying.
"They've spent money and time here to take a look at the possiblity of immigrating to Vancouver, so I think they're very serious."
Kischer estimates Bush's election victory could result in double the number of American immigrants coming to Canada.
If they're that pathetic, then good riddance.
Darn good news. Just make sure they can't vote here in '08! :-)
Don't let the door hitcha....
If that's what they want, it's their perogative. Just don't have them come whining to us when they experience rationed medical care and taxes up the wazoo.
please take them all, please, please, please
Hey Rudy....here's a short "prospect" list for you to call:
Michael Moore
George Clooney
Barbara Streisand
Molly Ivans
Sean Penn
Robert REDford
The Dixie Chicks
Bruce Springstein
Most of the Beverly Hills/Hollywood phone book
Most college/university faculty directories
NEA membership list.
Well, that should be a good start. Go get 'em ambulance boy!
ok, the time has come that I ask this question.
Can I trade my Canadian immigrant status with an American citizenship? Bush's re-election is one more reason for me and my family to move South.
Maybe I should try that on e-bay. Like that Vancouver lawyer said - it's good for business that Kerry didn't win!
Any ideas, folks? Get rid of a Democrat and welcome a Republican Entrepreneur plus wife and three kids.
I live in winnipeg, and in this election the Demo - get out to vote was here in Manitoba and sign up about 7000 absentee voters, don,t know what the numbers for all of Canada were. Americians who come to Canada don't give up their Americian citizenship. My wife has been in Canada for 18 years, this year she voted for Bush. If they choose to return to the U.S.A. they just return as if they have been on a extended holiday. Sorry to rain on your parade.
"Can I trade my Canadian immigrant status with an American citizenship?"
This will probably work best if you sneak in from Mexico. The US doesn't mind this very much.
It is more difficult from Canada.
And every single one that goes should have their US citizenship stripped from them and their names put on the FBI Watch List.
Not sure why, he lives in a blue state with a corrupt governor and an even more corrupt legislature and a corrupt legal system.
He ought to feel quite at home being a Kerry supporter.
They'll want to retain dual citizenship to vote in our elections. Bah.
Next we'll have Sally Struthers yammering on about the refugees and the cost of a cup of coffee. Don't buy it. Those Libbies are used to Starbucks and we're talking $4 here! Screw that.
