Face it, in the long run Taiwan is going to have to "reunite" with China. The interests of these two nations are too entwined.

I tend to agree. I doubt that any Sec of State who makes public policy statements (and GIANT ones at that) that directly contradict the President's instructions would be around long. And the President's cabinet members have always projected a consistent message. Do some people think this was a kamikaze mission on Powell's part?

"...to fire the rest of the State Department."

Exactly!

"Powell isn't saying anything that Bush doesn't himself believe."

President Bush agrees with Powell. So does Condolezza Rice. If we don't respect the absolute sovereignty of Taiwan, we are committing a great evil. Becoming citizens of a dictatorship is never a desirable outcome, ever!

Foggy Bottom is riddled with liberals. It's going to take a Rudy or Tommy Franks to clear the swamp.

If Taiwan were a Marxist dictatorship and China were a free, stable, and capitalistic Republic, we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

Some liberals come dangerously close to being supportive of America's enemies.

I would love to see Zell Miller in this position.

For nearly four years, Powell has been the weak link in Bush’s foreign policy. Of all the administration’s top officials, he was the last to come on board in support of military intervention in Iraq.

Is Powell on Prozac or what?

1. Iraq
2. Called Darfur "GENOCIDE" (legally binding term) and undermined US-brokered talks between Sudanese government and rebels
3. Recognized FYRO Macedonia under name Macedonia and created NATO rift
4. Told ROC to reunite with Chicoms.

The only thing missing is to tell PA that Israel has no right to exist and to encourage Kim JOng Il to swarm Korea.

He should be removed ASAP before he makes more damage.

Ok... let's see... When has Taiwan ever said they want to be a sovereign nation? Ever read the ROC Constitution? Until Taiwan says they are a sovereign nation, the US should not be making policy for them.

Secretary of State Colin Powell stepped in it once again – this time instructing the Taiwanese that their goal in life should be “reunification” with a murderous, police state.

I can't believe a republican, so-called "conservative" administration would recommend a free country get on its knees and enter into slavery with a communist country!

Money and greed are the god of the free traitors that run the republican party!
