WASHINGTON -- Democrat Brad Carson's message could not overcome the Republican wave in Oklahoma to help him become the state's next U.S. senator, but some party leaders think that message still could help Democrats nationally.
Jay Parmley, the chairman of the Oklahoma Democratic Party, said he has been contacted by party leaders in other states, suggesting Carson as a successor to Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe.
Carson, they believe, could help the party talk to voters in the so-called red states like Oklahoma that voted overwhelmingly for President Bush.
"McAuliffe has done a tremendous job raising money and building infrastructure," Parmley said.
"Now we need a moderate and a conservative to lead us into the mid-term elections."
Liberal Democrats, he said, who run and win in the so-called blue states will not be hurt by that kind of shift.
"The message he tried to articulate in the Senate race is the message we have got to have," Parmley said, adding that message could get Democrats past issues like gay marriage and abortion rights and into raising the minimum wage, creating jobs and providing health care.
Turning to someone with Carson's record would be viewed by many as a dramatic move.
After two terms in the U.S. House, Carson ran for the Senate as a moderate-to-conservative Democrat whose record on gun ownership was strong enough to win endorsements from the National Rifle Association.
His stance on abortion rights also became something of a moving target.
Carson, who has indicated he is through with elective politics and wants to begin a career in teaching, declined to comment on the idea of becoming the next DNC chairman.
"He appreciates the consideration of any party official," said Chebon Marshall, who leads Carson's congressional office in Oklahoma.
"He feels the likelihood of that is not very real. He figures he is going to stay here in Oklahoma and work for the prosperity of our state."

So who is that now, Howard Dean, Harold Ickes, and Carson up to run the DNC. Anyone else on the grapevine?
And losing...don't forget losing!
To start with, Carson knew as of October 20th he would lose and lose big. Carson hired three different polling companies and they each had the same numbers for October 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th ,and 19th.
Each polling company kept a daily tracking record and it showed Carson sliding daily, while he and Brad Luna told us he was climbing in the polls. On October 20th the coordinated campaign started making phones calls to help Daschle in South Dakota.
They conceded defeat in Oklahoma. All the while sending press releases out with doctored polling data showing Carson in the lead. Carson lied to Oklahoma Democrats with these polls and collected over $300,000 from Okies in the closing days of the race, knowing full well he was going

Isn't this the clown that ran an ad apologizing for lying to the public? A perfect choice for the dem's...although I much prefer the movement to choose Howard Dean thereby ensuring future election losses for the loser party

Tom Coburn isn't afraid of being disliked. In a bitter campaign for an Oklahoma Senate seat against Democrat Brad Carson, the 56-year-old family-practice doctor characterized the race as a choice between "good and evil."
Remarks like that landed Coburn--who, like his opponent, had served in Congress--in so much hot water that many national Republicans, including House Majority Leader Dennis Hastert, had all but conceded the race. But Coburn, who calls himself a "plain ol' conservative," refused to tone down his message, calling for the death penalty for abortionists and alluding to "rampant lesbianism" in Oklahoma schools.
But all the controversy didn't scare off some voters, who admired the cancer survivor for speaking his mind. Now headed for Washington, the married grandfather plans to keep fanning the flames: He wants to reform Social Security and Medicare and has already criticized members of his own party for spending too much taxpayer money. "If you like Washington the way it is," he said, "don't vote for me."
Whoo Hoo! Go Dr. Tom! Knock some heads in Washington!
I'll find the specifics. But he worked for them for a long time.
Let's get real. This story is being pushed by the Tulsa World. Presumably it originated with Brad Carson, who is looking for a job of some kind.

I was at an election party last tuesday and started chatting up a lovely intern for an Ohio Republican Senator, the one who happened to be running for re-election this time. She was rooting for Carson over Coburn. I couldn't beleive it.
Brad Carson ... bringing Reservation politics to the DNC ... BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
