The media and the Democrats are intentionally making their defeat a "religious" issue because it allows them to take the moral high-ground...as they battle what they see as the forces of bigotry and hatred. While I have no doubt that "values" helped Bush in this election, the Liberals are exaggerating this effect, by specifically making it a "religious" based issue.

Evangelicals imply that they were the main factor in this election, but who can blame them? I've also seen mentioned that Hispanics were up 2.3 percent for the President, and his margin of victory was up somewhere around 3.1 percent.

It's natural to want credit for your contribution to the win, but politics is a team effort.

This is exactly what Burnbaum and Krauthammer pointed out yesterday. Both the Hispanic and women vote increased in favor of Bush, as well. What the mediacrats are doing to excuse their loss...and position themselves as the morally superior party, is taking the 22% "moral" issues poll and turning it into a "religious" issue.

Unfortunately, they are only looking at abortions and Gay rights as the moral issue...and painting Republicans as the party that is against women's rights and gay rights. You don't have to be a religious person to have morals...and morals can include a lot of different things, including character and intergrity, which Kerry lacked.

While I have no doubt that religious people contributed to this victory, the mediacrats are intentionally making this an issue so they can excuse their loss and claim a morally superior position. This was not a religious Jihad...as many different groups contributed to Kerry's defeat, including blue-collar, yellow-dog democrats who also think the Democrats are headed in the wrong direction. Heck, the fact that the liberal mecca of Oregon voted down gay marriage is an indication that it is more than just the "religious right" that disapproves of the liberal agenda.
