Newsweek's voice-over : Inside Politics
The Washington Times ^ | 11/9/04 | Greg Pierce

Posted on 11/09/2004 6:17:31 AM PST by Pfesser

Media Research Center President L. Brent Bozell III is calling on Newsweek to issue a public apology in its next issue for misinforming the public about television ads produced by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.

Newsweek said in its post-election special issue: "When the Swift Boat vets made ads attacking [Sen. John] Kerry with images from his 1971 testimony, they used a voice-over, an actor reading Kerry's words." (The Newsweek story was written by Evan Thomas, based on reporting from Eleanor Clift, Kevin Peraino, Jonathan Darman, Peter Goldman, Holly Bailey, Tamara Lipper and Suzanne Smalley.)

"We have checked with people representing the Swift Boat Veterans and they confirm they used the actual Kerry testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in their ads. This nonsense in Newsweek about how an actor's voice-over was used instead of the authentic Kerry tape is misinforming the public, as much of the media did during the entire campaign when it came to covering the Swift Boat Veterans.

"Newsweek still has it wrong and must correct the record with an apology to the Swift Boat Veterans in its next issue," Mr. Bozell said.

Of course it was Kerry's voice. Who else speaks of Jengis Khan?

This whole issue stinks, from the deal with the devil that Newsweek made for access to the finished product. Caveat Emptor.

I wondered about that when I read the Newsweek article. I've never had a job where I could "make a mistake" like these people do over and over, and keep it, apologize or not. I don't understand why these people get to keep their jobs.

Amazing that Newsweek would try to convince the millions of us who CLEARLY heard Kerry's own voice saying "Jen-gis Kahn" that it was an actor instead!!!

Talk about DELUSIONAL !!!!!

I don't understand why these people get to keep their jobs.

You must live in the red part of the country where honor and integrity are held dear. These people live in the blue part where any lie about the enemy is a badge of courage.

Never. But so what? They're on the way down the drain.

And so what if the Swift Vets did use a voice-over, if they used Kerry's words?

Several years ago, Matt Drudge told these people--the so-called "journalists" of the "Mainstream Newsmedia"--that they were headed for irrelevance. He also told them how to prevent it. They lacked the wit and the honesty to pay attention to him.

Since then, it has become more and more obvious.

This election, as much as anything else, was referendum on the relevance and trustworthiness of the "Mainstream Newsmedia". The American people confirmed predictions that it was headed for the septic tank.

Remember when Newsweek was respected? Remember when the BBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, the New York Times, the LATimes, the Washington Post, Time magazine, et al. were respected and relevant. They no longer are.

They have become a joke, and the American people don't think it's funny.

The "Mainstream Newsmedia" and its so-called "journalists" are like a vulgar, unfunny, angry, disgusting stand-up comedian, and the American people are throwing tomatoes at it. The faster it gets off the public stage, the better.

For way too many years, the MSM, talking head pukes and pundits have been getting away with these untruths. No one bothers to correct them. For instance, in almost any interview you have seen on television about the Swiftboaters, the Kerry defenders will preface their comments with the stealth, throwaway line, "every allegation they've made has been proven false...". It's not true at all, but even our side has let them get away with it.

Jenjis Kerry was reading his own lines, thank you very much. Newsweek really has lost its moorings.

Bias is too nice a word for it anymore. The MSM has become so rabidly partisan they're making mistakes all over the place. They don't check facts they just believe what they want to believe.
