The Kurds seem to have it going on. I read that the main portion of the Iraqi units with us are Kurds.

If we can get the terrorists out of there and win in Falluja, without blowing up the Mosque, should we blow it up anyway? If they are trapped inside, they aren't going anywhere outside of our control, are they? I support waiting and seeing what develops. In Najaf, the Iraqis entered the Mosque there and ended the siege, while we secured the perimeter.

Uh-huh!

The Kurds always have been decent. They are the ONLY part of Iraq that has had anything like a viable economy since the last Gulf War.

They are also invaluable for catching people coming out of Iran and Syria and for passing information to the Coalition.

There are people who will say, "ALL Islam is evil, wipe them ALL out".

The Kurds put the lie to THAT.

BBC just reported that hundreds of terrorists just took over Ramadi and now control the centre of the city. US forces were forced to withdraw.

The good thing about taking out Falluja is that it forces the terrorists out of their safe home base and on the run in the rest of the country. It is far easier to sniff them out in a smaller city or when they are on the run in large groups than in a safe home base.

Terrorist organizations throughout history have needed a home base like in the mountains, a rebel-held city etc. Once they lose that base, they are usually defeated in short order.

I would call them rebels or insurgents if they cared about Iraq and this was a "patriotic" thing to them. Clearly, it is not. This is all about killing Americans. They are terrorists.

'We should blow this mosque to kingdom come, but no, we have it under 'observation', until when? Until those inside assemble their 'Acme Nuclear Missile' kit?'

I vote we wait until it's full of terrorists, then we blow it up...

Why should they be branded terrorists?
Surely they are the equivilent to a resistance force?
They are objecting to the continued occupation of their country.

---
Aren't these people are from Syria, Iran and so on. How can they be fighting for their country?

It is very good that those who did not wish to follow through with their orders decided to slip away instead. It gives those remaining more confidence. --- I'll bet it didn't bother the SwiftVets in 'Nam very much when BandAid John K decided to bug out leaving them to fight his battles. It is much better to know you can trust the guy next to you in a fight.

Kidnapping and beheading civilians and stringing them up on bridges; surely, this fits in with your dictionary definition of insurgent.

Don Imus was ranting this morning about Rumsfeld's "lying" about the number of Iraqi troops participating. He says that Rumsfeld has tried to say that this was an Iraqi-led invasion. Of course Rumsfeld has never said that or implied that, but no one will tell Imus that he is all wet. They simply let him rant.

I do understand and sympathise with that...And YES, it is better that they slink off into the night BEFORE the fight.

I am simply disgusted that our guys have been giving it up for people who don't have the morale back-bone to fight for their own freedom.

( Now before anyone jumps on me, I understand that there are very brave Iraqi individuals, but they seem more the exception, rather than the rule)

Frankly, I am not sure that Democracy CAN happen in Iraq: the culture is sick, and will take at LEAST two generations to begin to get better.

In some things, the Romans had it right: move into a place and start colonizing, put up baths, libraries, build roads and bath-houses.

The Romans changed cultures, and that wasn't ALWAYS a bad thing, and in many instances a very GOOD thing.

"Consider..90-95% of the troops now engaged in Fallujah can't legally order a beer back here in the states.."

Nor buy or own a firearm.
