Russians marked the anniversary of the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution yesterday with marches, Communist rallies and protests against a parliamentary proposal to scrap what was once the most sacred Soviet holiday.
Some pro-Kremlin lawmakers have proposed replacing the 7 November holiday with a new holiday on 4 November to be called National Unity Day. Russia’s lower house of parliament, the State Duma, is expected to consider the measure on Wednesday in the first of three required votes.
"This day was and will be a landmark event, and its celebration cannot be abolished," said the Communist Party leader, Gennady Zyuganov. "People suffered for this holiday, and no-one has the right to trample on our history."
After the collapse of the Soviet Union former president Boris Yeltsin also wanted to scrap the holiday. In a compromise, it was preserved but renamed the Day of Accord and Reconciliation.
Yep, about 100 million suffered for it.

I think you shouldn't go around changing history just to change history or to cover up a dark spot -
People need to "learn" from history - not hide it - not go on wanting it or want some payment because of it -
They should simply want to learn and grow as a nation from having learned their history -
A well educated public will see the lessons learned or the harm done by actions of the past - Russia and the U.S. need to keep this in mind - in my opinion -

If they'd just moved to make it the first Monday in November instead of November 4, people would have been all over that for a 3-day-weekend. Dummies.
