Not a strong enough public speaker... Good he's from PA, but there's too many in the SouthWest not happy with the way Homeland Security has handled the immigration issue (as in ducked it)...

McCain's disgraceful contribution to "campaign finance reform" ought to disqualify him from ever running for President again -- mainly because he would have to systematically break or circumvent the law that bears his name if he is to have any chance of winning at all.

Probably right -- though Sean is raking Specter over the coals on his show right now.

And watch how quickly the media coverage of the Keating Five re-surfaces if McCain were to be nominated. Look how much mileage the media got out of Halliburton this year . . . imagine how much more effective they'll be when the scandal in question is based on real facts!

I'm amazed at how many people here are wanting RINOs like McLame, Rudy, Powell, Romney, and Condi to run for President.

The time for conservatives to force their agenda is the next 4 years... after that folks, ALL BETS ARE OFF!

I think we need to play the opponent and not the platform. If Hilary is the opponent, we need to form a strategy that beats her specifically. KEEPING HER OUT OF OFFICE is more important than nominating a candidate we love and that will lose in the G.A.

Giuliani TROUNCES her in a general election, because he beats her in New York and New Jersey and maybe Pennsylvania, AND takes the rest of the red states minus perhaps Arkansas and Florida. A Democrat, ESPECIALLY THAT DEMOCRAT, CANNOT WIN THE WHITE HOUSE without New York.

Having said that, will the conservative wing of the party, KNOWING THAT THIS RACE WILL BE DECIDED IN THE PRIMARIES, force us into 4 or 8 years of Hilary because Rudy isn't conservative enough?

The Democrats are NOT going to have a long protracted primary. They know who the candidate is. WE know who their candidate is. If they save their primary money, and we are pushing a hard-line conservative, they will spend that money FLOGGING that candidate from pillar to post and the race will be over before it starts...

The reason California is BLUE is because the conservatives insist on nominating candidates who are too conservative for the state... And we get to suffer with Feinstein & Boxer for their efforts.

No. Too much baggage after 2000 -- that alone would mobilize the left... we can't run a female against Hillary. Gotta be a very strong, white male. -- I still say George Allen of VA. He's from the South (sort of) good credentials for the job (in his background), would make mince of Hillary and do it with a smile on his face and a chuckle... which I suspect would only make her more shrill... very conservative...

Rudy Gulliani (NY)--- I consider him the front runner.
Sec. Colin Powell (NY) ---- Colin will never run for President.
Sen. Bill Frist (TN)---- Frist will run, but doesn't have the charisma or name recognition.
Gov. Jeb Bush (FL)--- Interesting to see if he will run. Depends on how well the next four years go. Electing Jeb could be seen as an endorsement of George's 2 terms.
Sen. John McCain (AZ)---- Too old, too 'yesterday', no backing from the party.
Gov. Mike Huckabee (AR)---- Who?? No name recognition.
Gov. Mitt Romney (MA)---- Who, ditto??? No name recognition.

To me it comes down to Rudy and Jeb.

Regardless of which gets the nomination, if Hillary takes the Dems nomination, either Rudy or Jeb will pick Condi Rice as a running mate.

(I agree) that a mormon a black and a female is out for 2008. While I LOVE Rudy and do like McCain... we can't afford to run anyone with a wart of any kind. We need to be pure as the driven snow (or as close as a living being can be) in order to bring them in droves to vote for the Repubican over Hillary -- another thing -- even if someone runs as a "popular" third part candidate -- we cannot waiver and vote for him/her... historically that's what has broken Republican runs as in when Roosevelt was elected and Clinton was elected... and I read Clinton and Perot were "good friends" which not makes me a little more suspicious about 1992.

Exactly -- and that is why Arnold did win! This is something that needs to be done with the brain and not the heart.

Trust me -- Hillary will steamroller into this if we start infighting among ourselves... Look at the dems and how they allowed Kerry to run the tables in their Primary... of course, they didn't have one good candidate.

Here's my scenario. Virginia has a one term limit on governors. Mark Warner's term is up after the 2005 election there. Assuming a Republican is elected, George Allen could resign his Senate seat to replace a retiring Dick Cheney as VP and have a republican named to serve out the last year of his Senate term by the newly elcted governor.

He could then run as a sitting VP in 2008. He's telegenic, articulate, a great debater and would have Bush's red states sewn up early. Put Condi in as his running mate and ball game's over.

How old is Rudy?

Rudy Giulliani (NY) Far too liberal to win the GOP nomination
Sec. Colin Powell (NY) Will not run. Thank God.
Sen. Bill Frist (TN) Doesn't impress me.
Gov. Jeb Bush (FL) Another Bush so soon is a big question mark.
Sen. John McCain (AZ) Maybe.
Gov. Mike Huckabee (AR) Hmmm.
Gov. Mitt Romney (MA) Not for me.

Right now, I like Gov Bill Owens of Colorado for POTUS and Rick Santorum for VPOTUS. Owens said he won't run. We shall see.

The mormons don't believe in Jesus. They have invented a new "jesus" and a new gospel.

Well, there's your misinformation loud and clear.

the Mormons revere and use the Bible as scripture - and Jesus as the Son of God - as Redeemer, Savior, King....One of the most beautiful statues of Jesus is in the Tabernacle in SLC...

But don't take my word for it...you have the Internet and can do your own research...don't take my word or anyone else's. Go to the source. Being judgmental and denigrating based on misinformation is hardly Christian...n'est pas?

But this is the type of misinformed judgemental attitude Mic Romney would have to face...

Sen. John McCain (AZ)-- If he survives the primaries will become president.

Should read, "if he survives". He's how old now? This won't be Reagan going for re-election. I can't see a septegenarian being elected to a first-term presidency.

Giuliani - Definite VP material. Won't want it, though. Will not get GOP nod, no way, no how. Too many cross-dressing pix in NY gay pride parade.

Powell - Will be as far away from politics as humanly possible. He'll have a well-deserved retirement.

Frist - You're spot on.

Jeb Bush - Never say never. But okay, I'll say "Bush fatigue" set in.

Mitt Romney - Nope. Not conservative. He's of the John Kerry "I'm personally against abortion...BUT" persuasion. He's also in favor of federally funding embryonic stem cell research.

It's going to be Bill Owens/Condi Rice in '08. Owens seems to fit the bill of consistency, courage, governing experience, and education. His affinity and experience in the study of Soviet history tells me he would get along swimmingly with Condoleeza Rice, who is also a Russo-phile.

Condoleeza's pro-choice stance will soften Owens' unabashedly pro-life Catholic makeup (the guy cut Colorado funding to Planned Parenthood clinics, for crying out loud! Now that takes ROCKS). Condi would continue to help the GOP gather in more of the black vote. Owens will attract more of the Catholic vote.

That's my bet:

Owens/Rice in 2008.

With the current electoral map makeup, it might be a good idea to go with a candidate from a major battleground state like OH, PA, or MI. If we run a popular local candidate who can lock one of these states out of play, it would be just about impossible for the Dims to make it up.

As far as Giuliani, he is a socially left authoritarian who is only conservative in the context of an police citystate like NYC. A RINO in a position of power is even more destructive than a Dem, because the rest of our guys won't work against him. I would rather have John F'n Kerry or even Hillary with a house majority working against them than Giuliani with 55 of our Senators on his side and his left wing crap actually getting done.

Ridge was the first enlisted Vietnam combat vet elected to Congress. Bronze star. Re-elected 6 times.
