Olbermann: Kerry's Concession Might be Void...

NEW YORK - Here’s an interesting little sidebar of our system of government confirmed recently by the crack Countdown research staff: no Presidential candidate’s concession speech is legally binding. The only determinants of the outcome of election are the reports of the state returns boards and the vote of the Electoral College. That’s right. Richard Nixon may have phoned John Kennedy in November, 1960, and congratulated him through clenched teeth. But if the FBI had burst into Kennedy headquarters in Chicago a week later and walked out with all the file cabinets and a bunch of employees with their raincoats drawn up over their heads, nothing Nixon had said would’ve prevented him, and not JFK, from taking the oath of office the following January.

This is mentioned because there is a small but blood-curdling set of news stories that right now exists somewhere between the world of investigative journalism, and the world of the Reynolds Wrap Hat. And while the group’s ultimate home remains unclear - so might our election of just a week ago. Stories like these have filled the web since the tide turned against John Kerry late Tuesday night....

Someone tell Olbermann to STFU and go back to sports where his cluelessness is more appreciated.

Kerry conceded, but not Edwards. A few more fraudulent ballots, and it's President Edwards!

"somewhere between the world of investigative journalism, and the world of the Reynolds Wrap Hat"

Considerably closer to the tinfoil cap end I'd think.

Thoughts? Let me know at KOlbermann@msnbc.com

Yes, actually. You're nuts, Mr. Olbermann.

Did grinning sportsboy just realize this now?

He's practicing wishful thinking to the fullest. While we're at it I may have a billion dollars appear in my bank account tomorrow morning.

The concession has no legal effect, but is considered a courtesy (which JFK, true to form, could barely bring himself to do). The only thing that counts is the majority in the final EV count, which belongs to Bush in this case.

I heard somewhere on TV a couple of days ago that when a candidate concedes they 'disband' their electors making a victory impossible.

Olbermannn is just reporting on the DUmmies conspiracy theories, and even admits is "tin foil hat" stuff.

Wonder if he'd like to report to the American people about the Dummies poll that indicates the majority on that board think the election was more disastrous than 9/11.

I'm sure America would like to hear what kind of people are putting forth these tin foil hat theories.

No it is a scam for some broad named Bev Harris on DU. She is in the process of "proving" election fraud and, along with Air America is raking in a lot of money from the inmates at DU. They are so enraged they are giving her money hand over fist. It is really an ingenious scam and she may just get rich with it.

There hasn't been civil unrest in this country in 35+ years like would be seen if Kerry tried to recind his concession.

The feverish ravings of a syphilitic brain.... I'm only surprised that the Demagogic Party did not launch this stuff last Wednesday morning -- I guess it took them a few days to get their stories going....

concessions have never been binding nor are they necessary for an election to come to a conclusion. Bush's Presidency will be confirmed and he will be awarded the electoral college votes and that will be that. It doesn't matter if Kerry ever conceded, the election goes on. Otherwise, what would stop someone from not conceding and holding up the election final forever? Conceding is a merely a formality and nothing more. Don't let these lefties get to you. They are screaming and crying and acting like 2 year olds, have you ever seen this many adults act like they didn't have any maturity at all? And these people think they are the smart, informed, itelligent party, the only ones fit to lead us. What bull.

Do you think Olbermann is just playing for ratings? Or do you think he's serious? One of my fears is that the MSM will play up stories like this to try to undermine Bush's legitimacy, at least with a certain segment of the country.

I remember when Clinton got re-elected and everyone was saying he had a mandate. But he didn't even get 49% of the vote.
