In Seattle, Kerry Loss Darkens Winter Mood
Washington Post/The Spokesman-Review | 11-7-2004 | Blaine Harden

SEATTLE--It has been a SAD week in Seattle, city of rain, darkness, caffeine, secularism and an 82 percent majority that voted in vain to fire President Bush.

SAD, as just about everybody here knows, is an acronym for seasonal affective disorder, the mood-crushing curse of wintertime existence in the northernmost major U.S. city in the Lower 48. An estimated 20 to 30 percent of residents experience some degree of the disorder, which researchers believe is triggered by the body's reaction to reduced natural light. Symptoms include sadness, irritability, gluttony, weight gain, menstrual difficulties and interpersonal strain.

As expected, suffering began last Sunday, with the end of daylight-saving time. Like a guillotine blade, darkness fell at 5 in the afternoon. It was the pitiless annual reminder that by midwinter, there would barely be eight hours of daylight, almost all of it sponged up by thick blankets of concrete-colored clouds that, on average, squat over Seattle 226 days a year.

The next day, election eve, it rained hard. The wind blew, roofs leaked, basements floded and Seattle seemed to slip irretrievably into the dank funk that has given birth to the SAD resistance movement, otherwise known as excessive caffeine consumption. That movement gave birth to Starbucks and scores of other, lesser-known local purveyors of overpriced coffee.

Real interesting article about the city of anti-Bushies. Read the rest: http://www.spokesmanreview.com/local/story.asp?ID=36449

And people around the world want to know why Mt. St. Helens, located south of Seattle, is blowing her top. The volcano is located south of Seattle, the city where the liberal leftists communist demoncRATS played host to the clintoons on many fundraising drives. Now if you had that to look forward to, it's know wonder that the volcano is experiencing constant acid indigestion and hearburn.

BAD is an acronym for Brain in A$$ Disease which seems to infect about 82% of the population of Seattle.

There's a reason Lewis and Clark made haste to pack up and leave the relative comfort and security of the Pacific Northwest as soon as practicable in order to run the gauntlet of the Rockies in reverse. It was depressing then and still is.

That does sound rather extreme, even for Seattle. Jeez, even in the Back Bay/Beacon Hill district of Boston, Kerry only got 77 percent of the vote. Could Seattle be even more liberal than Boston? Cambridge, however, went 85-13 for Kerry, which is probably a higher percentage than Kerry got in his own family.

As two of the few remaining sane people in this city: my wife and I have vastly enjoyed strolling about, as usual -- grocery shopping; walking the dog; etc. -- and snickering gleefully all at the pouty, hollow-eyed liberals shambling about in the wake of the U.S.S. Liberal's capsizing; beaten (and deservedly so) losers, unhappy with the newfound status in life as ineffectual and irrelevant to the direction of this great country.

All this, and the death of Arafat, to boot. And people actually say there's no G-d...? :)

I don't the exact figures but I wouldn't be surprised if the figures are accurate. Seattle (King County) and two other counties on the west side are responsible for giving us Sen. Patty "Moron" Murray, Sen. Maria Cant"budget"well, Rep. Jim "Baghdad" McDermott, Gov. Gary "the first Chinese-American governor" Locke for 8 years, and numerous other liberal leftist communists demoncRATS that run the politics. Four years, those 3 counties gave Cant"budget"well the senatorship while the rest of the state went for the pubby Sen. Slade Gorton, the incumbent at that time. Sad! Very sad for those living east of the Cascade Mtns.
