In a previous thread about this, many people theorized that we knew this guy was untrustworthy and fed him the wrong plan to throw the thugs off.

Change the plan to this:

1) Give them the warning and the directions for how non-comms can leave.
2) Give those that remain a short time frame to surrender unconditionally.
3) Once the time passes...pulverize the entire city with B-52's, don't leave one stone standing on another.
4) Then send in the marines to mop up, and clean up.
5) After we bomb it to rubble, use 100 D-9 cats to level it off and then sprinkle salt and pig-blood over the whole place. Not too many other places will be so anxious for Jihad after that.

Avoid the specter of large scale urban fighting where many Americans and their Iraqi allies will die. Let the Jiahdist know that we will not play their game...that we intend simply to kill them dead.

In the process, we do not allow the enemy to escaper. The directions will include check points as the only avenue of escape. Anyone avoiding the checkpoints, or anyone not approaching them as instructed is killed on site.

At the checkpoint we send all males between 16 and 70 to detention where they are thotroughly interrogated, and if found to be so much as inlcined towards the terrorists/jihadists...they end up in labor camps for the next 5-10 years, helping rebuild Iraq under armed guard.

Only very young boys, old men and women are allowed to pass through...and they are checked thoroughly as well. Any weapons, contraband, etc...sends them to detention too.

Two or three Faullujah examples like this would break the back of the terrorist/jihadist and let the Iraqi citizens who abet and harbor the enemy know that we are deadly serious about helping the rest of Iraq obtain their freedom.

It's time we talk their language and ensure that they know (and believe) that the price for their fighting us is not just military defeat, by their own beliefs it will be HELL...and not Heaven with 72 virgins. Black Jack Pershing did something like this (I believe he dipped his bullets in pig fat) and all the Jihad against him stopped.

With allies like these, we'll never want for enemies.

Given that we had about 50 years of experience under NATO of west German secretaries leaking NATO plans to East Germany, it is not excactly as though the army really believes that plans briefed to our battlefield "allies" will remain protected. There are at least 2 plans which have very different distributions.

Ah Jeff Jeff Jeff Jeff Jeff. This is just NOT how we fight a war these days. You are SO out of touch. What would Kofi and Jock think of us if we behaved in this manner? And of course there is also the wholly unacceptable fact that this tactic would quickly turn Iraq into a peaceful Republic and insure President Bush's Republican successor instant and massive success at the polls in '08. Tch tch tch. CANNOT have that. You incourageable dinosaur!

We don't brief Iraqi company comanders on the entire battle plan...just on what they need to know.

Regardless of whether he had any useful information or not, having a company commander desert on the eve of battle does raise some questions about the reliability of Iraqi forces. Particularly since he's a Kurd, the group that's supposedly our closest ally in Iraq.

....Black Jack Pershing did something like this (I believe he dipped his bullets in pig fat) and all the Jihad against him stopped.

If memory serves he also ordered that all enemy killed were to smeared with lard. They decided to leave Pershing alone upon seeing that.
(Please feel free to correct me if i'm wrong about this)

There's no real evidence he deserted; he could just as well have been kidnapped, or even fallen into a hole somewhere and be waiting for rescue.

Claim: General John J. Pershing effectively discouraged Muslim terrorists in the Philippines by killing them and burying their bodies with pigs.

Status: Undetermined.

It is undetermined by Snopes, but there is a lot of ancedotal evidence that it did occur.

The tale of his tieng 50 Muslim terrorists up to poles in the Phillipines and executing forty-nine of them with bullets dipped in pig fat is not necessarily an urban legend at all. Snopes themselves do not refute it...they simply indicate that they can find no clear evidence either way, but do not discount that it may have happened.

It's been a persistent story since 19911 when it occurred.

In the "Black Jack: The Life and Times of John J. Pershing" by Frank E. Vandiver, Frank E. he indicates this:

Col. John J Pershing threatened the mullahs with . . . "splattering of pigs-blood on your houses and families and any who attack us and are killed will be buried in pig-skins." Consequently the mullahs made Pershing an Honorary Chieftan with little if any more trouble in his area of command.

In the 1938 book, "Jungle Patrol", the author indicates, regarding the defeat of the insurrection by the Moros,

It was Colonel Alexander Rodgers of the 6th Cavalry who accomplished by taking advantage of religious prejudice what the bayonets and Krags had been unable to accomplish. Rodgers inaugurated a system of burying all dead juramentados in a common grave with the carcasses of slaughtered pigs. The Mohammedan religion forbids contact with pork; and this relatively simple device resulted in the withdrawal of juramentados to sections not containing a Rodgers. Other officers took up the principle, adding new refinements to make it additionally unattractive to the Moros. In some sections the Moro juramentado was beheaded after death and the head sewn inside the carcass of a pig. And so the rite of running juramentado, at least semi-religious in character, ceased to be in Sulu. The last cases of this religious mania occurred in the early decades of the century. The juramentados were replaced by the amucks. .. who were simply homicidal maniacs with no religious significance attaching to their acts.

Snopes indicates it could well have happened that Pershing actually did these things. The stories regarding it are persistant and there is a lot of ancedotal accounts and evidence that is happened. I believe it did.

Is this from where the term "running amuck" is derived.

"Strategery"

LOL! I still think of the SNL Bush-Gore debate sketch.

Moderator: "Now, Vice-President Gore, Governor Bush, sum up the them of your compaigns in one word."

Gore: "Lockbox."

Bush: "Strategery."
