I was in the hospital in the early 70s when someone from the VFW brought around thank you cards for the vets. I was surprised when I opened it and it had a one dollar bill in it.
Not much money eve back then but it took me back to my childhood when I might expect to find a little money inside a card from a relative on my b/day.
I kept that dollar bill for many years and then it got lost somehow.
Gotta get me one of those buttons to wear that says "Hug A Veteran"

This morning in church, a family member or friend of one of the baptism candidates was wearing his Navy uniform. My dad, a former Korean-war Marine Corps. vet, extended his hand and offered his thanks to the sailor. He said the man looked very surprised, but welcomed the thanks. My mom, a Navy vet, was prayed for today during prayers for All-Saints Day. She died earlier this year, June 4. I'm very proud of both of them.
Thank you and God bless you.

We've got a big celebration planned here in Sierra Vista Arizona. Lots of Boy and Girl Scout units marching, antique cars and antique military vehicles, bands, marching units floats, individual small US Flags will be passed out to spectators along the route, spectators are being encouraged to bring nonperishable food to put in the Shrine Clowns wagon that will then go to the needy veterans and others in the community.
Our Grand Marshall is a no longer actively serving marine (marines don't retire or become ex-marine) and he became a POW of the Japanese at Wake Island in WWII, living to tell about it.
Looks like this is going to be a real good day. I'll take pictures and post them to the Veteran's Day Parade Thread. I just know there will be one here on FR.

Wow. Sounds really wonderful. Ours is not that big, but meaningful nonetheless.
God bless the troops and the vets.

There's a saying about this
town and we aren't that big (just under 40K folks live here); "If you're not in the Veteran's Day Parade you're watching it."
