James Belushi Files Suit Against Actress Julie Newmar

LOS ANGELES (Nov. 6) - James Belushi has sued his next-door neighbor, actress Julie Newmar, accusing her of a "campaign of harassment" to drive him from his home.

In a lawsuit filed Nov. 2, the 50-year-old actor claims Newmar vandalized his estate by destroying a fence and landscaping. He also contends she bad-mouthed him to neighbors and friends, spied on his family and caused a nuisance by playing loud music directed at his backyard.

A telephone number for Newmar, who played Catwoman in the 1960s television series "Batman," was not immediately available. A call to Belushi's lawyers was not returned Saturday night.

The suit seeks an injunction against the actress as well as damages of at least $4 million plus attorneys' fees, saying her actions caused emotional distress and harmed Belushi's reputation and career.

"Newmar has engaged in a malicious and premeditated campaign to prevent and destroy Belushi's quiet peace," the suit says.

You tell me.

I like sports but I can't stomach that dimwit show he has now. I don't see any deep insight coming from the mouths of NBA centers or NFL linemen.

But that's just me.

But they should NEVER have EVER let that woman even TRY to sing.

I think her masculine-sounding monotone is part of the turn-on for some people. She was a good actress in "Judgement at Nuremberg" and "Witness for the Prosecution". But she just doesn't flip my switch. In "The Wonderful, Horrible Life of Leni Riefenstahl", it was stated that Riefenstahl as a young actress had been jealous of Marlene Dietrich's success and her director told her that she would also become a big star but in a different way. The young Riefenstahl much more attractive IMHO.

I remember her first from the TV show, "My Living Doll" starring Bob Cummings. Oh yeah.

Me too. Hubba hubba. I was pretty young then so I had a sort of dual appreciation of Newmar and the whole robot aspect. I was very disappointed when that show went off the air.

...she comes from big money family...

Ah, I recall seeing her on some talk show. She her brother and his roommates at Harvard were
big fans of "Batman" at the time.

Agreed. But what explains the career of Tom Arnold?

Admit it -- he was *great* in "True Lies"...

Man, this feud has been going on for quite some time. I remember reading about it ages ago. CATWOMAN VS. BELUSHI. I don't know who to put my money on!

I was in that stage then and still am to a lesser extent.
I have a robot vacuum but it's shape is nothing like that of Newmar. lol

My dad was a Army/Air Corp WWII veteran and like a lot of folks his age, watched anything featuring Bob Cummings. I never thought that it might have been Newmar he was tuning in for. I read that Cummings and Newmar hated each other so much that the last five episodes of the final season were never produced. Cummings never worked on a series again.

NOTE: There wasn't much of a choice as what to watch; three stations to choose from, two of which were UHF...

Way off topic: Dad bought three magazines every month, Popular Science, Science and Mechanics, and Mechanics Illustrated. I was a space and inventions buff and still have some school reports I prepared by cutting and pasting the articles and pictures into composition books.

Cutting and pasting sure is little easier in these times!

I thought Bob Cummings was very good in Kings Row where he played a young medical student who was friend to the character played by Reagan.

She's got kind of a Bette Davis thing going, hasn't she? Russell Johnson just has a "Why coudn't the professor have gotten Ginger just once?" thing going.

I don't know why I find this so funny! But I do.

One Hollywood loser suing another.

I think Miss Julie drinks a little.

He campaigned for Kerry. Is she a republican?

Just wondering did you see an add he made for kerry? Or was it a campaign stop of some sort?

A shot of Jim Belushi making an appearance on behalf of John Kerry is included in that eastern European news video linked on FR a few weeks ago.
