Snubbed Teddy’s a Bear (Kerry dissed Kennedy)
Boston Herald (print edition) | November 7, 2004 | Andrew Miga and David Guarino

Posted on 11/07/2004 8:03:47 AM PST by maryz

There were a lot of things John Kerry could have done with his concession speech and didn’t – like pulling an Al Gore, trying to set the table for 2008 or just being Kerryesque.

But of all the things he didn’t do but should have, Numero Uno is already coming back to bite him very quickly.

That would be forgetting, inexplicably, to thank Sen. Edward M. Kennedy.

Kerry had kind words for tons of folks, everybody from his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, and daughters to running mate John Edwards, his wife, Elizabeth, and their kids.

Not surprising that.

But then he went on to effuse about his “band of brothers” from Vietnam, his campaign manager, Mary Beth Cahill and, oddly, a couple of random kids from the campaign trail – Michael Benson from Florida, who offered his piggybank of cash on a rope line, and Ilana Wexler, who started “Kids for Kerry.”

Nowhere was Teddy, except sitting in the front row, humbled.

Let’s not forget Kennedy really liked Edwards better but set his personal feelings aside, dissed other establishment Democrats like Dick Gephardt, ignored the surging Howard Dean and basically won the nomination for Kerry.

Without Kennedy, there was no Cahill. Without Kennedy, there was no Boston convention. Without Kennedy, there was no Iowa victory – or New Hampshire.

“Kennedy people are very, very angry,” one Kennedy person said. “You don’t get to stay junior senator from Massachusetts long if you do things like that to the senior senator from Massachusetts,” another warned.

File that under “Ain’t Gonna Be a Next Time.”

Seems to me Kerry gave Kennedy a bad time before -- like when he proposed the idea of not accepting the nomination at the convention. Hope Kennedy's finally learned who not to trust!

Did Kerry also "forget" to thank the Clintons?

One of several such illegal contributions Kerry accepted.

Once word got out that Kennedy was the conservative Senator from the state, Kerry knew he did not like him any more.

So what else is new? Kerry used Kennedy for his purpose and Kennedy used Kerry for the same.

Why that worthless pile of poop in the senior Mass. senate chair continues to hold any power at all just amazes me.

Kerry is an arrogant, ungrateful, opportunistic "user."

Forgetting their moonbat liberalism for a second, Kennedy has been nothing if not totally supportive to Kerry for many, many years. Kennedy singlehandedly got Kerry the nomination, busting his hump for dead-in-the-water Kerry in Iowa. Kennedy should have been given some respect.

This is a profound flaw in Kerry's narcissistic psyche, which we can see in his repeated disloyalty to the USA. Our nation, once again, dodged a bullet, for which we should give thanks this Sunday to the Almighty.

John D'bater either didn't want to 'give up' who his godfather has been, or knew he was going to get dumped by Teddy(hic!) as a result of his miserable campaign performance (or both).

Some of us believed that the way Kerry turned his back on his country and military during his Viet Nam protest days and all through his career as a Senator, said something about his character. I guess Kennedy is just finding out.

LOL! How do think it made Kennedy feel? His whole reputation -- gone!

“If she had lived, Mary Jo Kopechne would be 63 years old.
Through his tireless work as a legislator,
(Democrat) Edward Kennedy would have brought comfort to her in her old age
and she would have thanked Senator Kennedy unlike the frumpy junior Senator.”

– Charles Pierce, Boston Globe

Well, if Kennedy was sober, this could mean trouble for Kerry, but, probably not.

In fact, if Kennedy really got mad at Kerry, he could leak some of the documents that he has about Kerry's court martial and discharge from the USNR under other than honorable conditions or any other of the shifty things Kerry has done in the past 20 years while coasting as a senator. But, if Kennedy wasn't sober, it will be business as usual.

Interestingly enough, why should Kennedy feel any different for being taken for granted by Kerry that blacks do for being taken for granted by the dems?

It sounds as if it's Kennedy's staff (those he didn't give Kerry, anyway) are the ones who are truly outraged.
