That's the one. He wanted to impose an income tax on Tennessee and we fought him on it for what seemed like forever. At the end of his term in put a ridiculous sales tax on us. It runs in tiers according to what you buy but most things carry a 9.50% +/- tax when it's all added up. I'm just a few miles from GA so we go there for large purchases. Bredesen has been good, even for a Democrat. He seems to be pretty conservative and I don't hear any complaints from either side.

Personally, I think a reasonable sales tax is more fair because everybody has to pay, not just the working folks, but his was excessive IMO and it seemed to have been done out of spite. Sales tax would not be more fair for the low income working class but income tax punishes people for working and encourages people not to work. Just my two cents but I'm no tax expert. :-)

Oh, this is Michael Steele...didn't he deliver an excellent speech at the Republican Convention? I was VERY impressed with him.

Okay, so the list is down to:

Bill Owens - CO governor
>plus: solid conservative, charismatic, christian-friendly
>minus: not a southerner vis-a-vis the former Confederate
states; marital issues could hurt him badly

George Allen - former VA governor
>plus: solid conservative, charismatic, christian-friendly,
southerner
>minus: lengthy voting record in Congress could be used
against him

I'm more worried about Richardson, or another Hispanic Dem, in '08 than I am about Hillary.

Michael Steele

You're out of your mind

How about Michael Steele for VP? He was fantastic at the Repub. Natl. Convention. And after he gets the visibility from being a VP, he could run for President in the future.

No objection to Steele, but neither will he bring anything to the table in terms of electoral votes.

I'd like a Tommy Franks, George Allen ticket.

Why not? I think she is the first person most democrats think about for 2008.

Because she'd almost guarantee a 100 percent Republican turnout, and she's such a dullard that the same couldn't be guaranteed on the Rat side.

Also there is little chance that Hitlery would subject herself to 1+ years of campaign scrutiny.

Mostly it's just my gut that says she's unelectable.

I'm gonna disagree with you about his performance at the convention.

I'm from Baltimore. I wish Steele was the second coming. But, I've yet to be impressed with his intellectual muscle. He's said some stuff so dumb it enraged me.

Re: Hillary. You have some really good points. However, in my opinion the Dem's, having been so disappointed because of Prez. Bush' re-election, would hold their collective noses and vote for Hillary in the 'Anybody but a Republican' fashion.

And let's not forget that Hillary and Bill still have many FBI files. There will be deals made, blackmail applied, media attacks against her opponents etc etc. It will be bloody out there. I do not believe for a minute that she will run 'normal' campaign. I am seriously worried.

McCain compromises with rats too much. He could get a lot of rat votes, though but I think he would lean too far left. He helped GWB with his campaign but he would give with the right hand and take away with the left hand. He had to be told at one point durring the campaign to stop getting on TV and praising Kerry. I think he and Kerry both knew something about the POW situation in Nam when they went over there together looking for POW's and Kerry came back here and said there weren't any left when that was a lie.

I still have all my tapes from the convention. I'm going to find Michael Steele's speech and watch it again. I do remember that he made some strong points and I was amazed that they came from a black man. I thought: Wished we had more blacks that 'get it'.

A leach.. hoping to feed from Bubbas base....But she ain't Bubba.

Thanks for articulating what I've been trying to say.

She's a tedious bore, unexceptional in her record, unexceptional but competent in her presentation, and really has only Bubbaism to draw from.

Once people see her on the campaign trail they'll be brought back to reality. The only time I've seen Hitlery actually seem inspiring is when she has free reign to spout extreme leftist and feminist sentiments. Because that's the real Hitlery.

And there's just no way she'll want to mingle with the Great Unwashed for a 1+ year campign.
