George W. Bush - the Poker Player (GWB Vanquishes the Left)
FreeRepublic ^ | 11/07/04 | Thomas Lifson

Posted on 11/07/2004 3:45:43 AM PST by beyond the sea

President George W. Bush is the very first President to hold a Masters Degree in Business Administration. Even better (or worse, depending on your perspective), his MBA is from Harvard Business School, where postgraduate management training was invented in the early part of the last century, and which to many stands as a symbol of the good, the bad, and the ugly faces of modern management. Harvard MBA’s indisputably lead more major corporations, receive higher starting salaries fresh out of school, and carry with them more élan and glamour than the graduates of any rival business schools – facts which do not necessarily lead to admiration and love.

*****

Mr Lifson goes on to say much later in this article something that it could be said is essential to 'The Bush Victory':

*****

One final note on George W. Bush’s management style and his Harvard Business School background does not derive from the classroom, per se. One feature of life there is that a subculture of poker players exists. Poker is a natural fit with the inclinations, talents, and skills of many future entrepreneurs. A close reading of the odds, combined with the ability to out-psych the opposition, leads to capital accumulation in many fields, aside from the poker table.

By reputation, the President was a very avid and skillful poker player when he was an MBA student. One of the secrets of a successful poker player is to encourage your opponent to bet a lot of chips on a losing hand. This is a pattern of behavior one sees repeatedly in George W. Bush’s political career. He is not one to loudly proclaim his strengths at the beginning of a campaign. Instead, he bides his time, does not respond forcefully, a least at first, to critiques from his enemies, no matter how loud and annoying they get. If anything, this apparent passivity only goads them into making their case more emphatically.

Only time will tell, whether Saddam ever had any WMDs. Their non-existence has not been proven. Only time will tell whether or not Osama bin Laden (or his corpse) will be taken into custody by American Troops. Only time will tell whether or not Iraq will continue to make progress toward a transition toward a peaceful democratic government. George W. Bush knows much more information about these topics than his domestic political opponents do.

We will see by November who has the winning hand.

Well, now that it's over, good riddance to John-Jaquestrap Effin Shove It S.O.B Teresa Mamma T Winthrop Simoes-Ferreira Al Qerry-Heinz III.

Mr. Kerry, go have an ample handful of those infamous raisins while Teraaayza still allows you inside the house.

Seriously, that is supposed to be a great arthritis remedy (but Teraayza emphasized WHITE raisins in particular). I'm going to try it.

I hear it even works well for listening to concession speeches.

Heinz Kerry -- “You get some gin and get some white raisins — and only white raisins — and soak them in the gin for two weeks,” she said. “Then eat nine of the raisins a day.” Despite the laughter, Dr. Steven Phillips, director of Geriatric Medicine at the University of Nevada quickly supported the prescription. Phillips, on stage with Heinz Kerry as part of the panel, said sulfur and sulfides found in grapes are increased by the alcohol and could perhaps alleviate joint pain. Dr. Michael Gerber, a noted homeopathic doctor in Reno, also said the formula has merit. “It makes sense,” said Gerber from his office. “People go to hot springs to soak in the water and that water is very high in sulfur. So Mrs. Kerry’s remedy is pretty plausible.”

Did these experts explain why a tenth raisin would ruin the cure?

According to Tur-ayyyy-za, the white raisins work better than the dark ones.

The President was confident of his reelection from the start. He did not respond to all the outrageous claptrap from the left. He kept a poker face and when he spoke finally, he labeled duKerry a Massachussetts liberal and a flipflopper. These were both true and they will both stick forever. On the other hand most of the liberal charges against the President were ridiculous at best and will prove false with time. He'll find the WMD in Syria most likely and he'll get UBL. He'll also get private accounts for Soc Sec, an Energy bill to drill in ANWAR, a good Justice or three and end up with a powerful economy very little afraid of the dwindling threat of terrorists.

Thomas is a Harvard MBA. And a wonderful gentleman. :) I've had the honor of meeting and interacting with him years ago.

Another great analysis from Thomas which, as you BTS are noting, has come to pass.

I'll never forget a game of Monopoloy with a NY native who cleaned up the board by owning Meditteranean and Baltic, and the "orange(or red)" states. We, who held Park Avenue, the Railroads, the electricals.... couldn't believe it! He was an excellent player. There's more to it than just the roll of the dice.

And he almost blew it by NOT DOING just that in the first debate where Kerry's performance energized a much depressed voter/worker base

I just wish this guy would acknowledge the TREMENDOUS help Bush got from the SWIFTIES

They completely torpedoed Kerry's Attempt to use his Vietnam War Hero tactic he started at the convention and made him hide from the press

He was going to run with that for all it was worth and BUSH/ROVE were NOT going to do anything to counter it

AGREE! However, doing so would only help validate the MSM's claim that W won because of 'dirty tricks' rather than because of who he is, what he's accomplished, and what he stands for.

LOL! No they didn't. I guess the number comsumed should have something to do with body weight, so I'd be willing to eat a few more for my old bones, arthritis, and extra weight. ;-)

I am talking about the editorial writers not the Bush people themselves

And who cares what the MSM says or will say
Truth is truth and the hell with what they say or think

Excellent!

I used to spend most of my time waiting for the "Get Out of Jail Free" card.

GW had the nuts at the flop with a Straight Flush Royal. Johhny Nam never knew what hit him. He kept calling and raising to the river from Cambodia with his pocket cards Edwards and Te-ra-za, (otherise known as a pair of deuces).
