Call me naive, but before I took a stroll thru DUmmie land, I actually would not have believed there were people out there with that type of mindset! It is good to know your enemy & how they think. I was stunned by the depth of their hatred, not only for republicans, but for this whole country.
They are truly of a communist persuasion & I think it is good to be aware that these types exist. I guess I lead a sheltered life, living in a small midwest town, but reading some of their posts, was truly an awakening for me!
In the old days, everyone posted what they wanted to share. A freepers first post was an occasion -- with the older members commenting on the quality of the first post. It was a better time. For reasons I wonder about, often the garbage is posted during "prime time" and the good stuff is posted in the middle of the night. Maybe if there's fewer than three comments, a piece could be posted twice. Something needs to change.
I haven't been around as long as you, (we lurked before the 2000 election when we lived in Philly) but I do remember a bit of what you're talking about. I've also noticed some "prolific" FReepers going MIA as thread Authors (or maybe I just am not clicking on the right stories anymore).
And that's where I've noticed a lot of the duplicates come in as well - the middle of the night, timezone doesn't seem to matter. An article (Zell Miller comes to mind) is posted at something like 2am - and is posted again about 5 times the following day. Same title, same source. The first thread might have no responses, it might have 3. The following threads will have anywhere from 1 or 2 to 50 each.
For some reason, I noticed a part of what I had thought I'd written up top is missing. What I also meant to say was that sometimes when I click on a link for a story I've never heard of, the 1st or 2nd comment will be "already posted." But I didn't see it, so I don't mind so much. I guess the problem, for me, seems to be in the "senseless" duplicates - no source, no link... one or 2 liners, and cross-linked to every single FR topic there is. Most of them fall into Breaking News as someone else mentioned so that can be attributed to everyone posting within a couple minutes of each other.
But many don't bother to look, and that seems to me to be a discredit to the original poster.
I wonder if I could find the first thread I ever posted. And what kind of comments I received. Maybe I joined after the "fun" you all had. :)
BTW - Thank you very much for your comments, which I agree with 100%. I'm just long-winded tonight; wound up from praying so hard for our Marines in Fallujah tonight I imagine..
I am grateful for any input from those who can tell me about "the old days" on FR.
