It is tough:
1) You need to get an English language test called IELTS and pass with scores ike 6.5 out of 9. This is equivalent to getting B+ in high school final year's English or first year university/college writing class.
2) There is no help from government in finding work. And if you speak with too thick American accent (rolling r's) Kiwis won't welcome you to work.
3) They are planning to require you to live here for at least 5 years before citizenship is granted.

Ah, there's the rub... I'm sure most of these American Libs were imaging New Zealand was a bit more socialized, and counting on a little more help from the government. And even if a NZ employer got past the accent, they'd quickly tire of having a whining Marxist on staff...
