Not much of a correlation, probably because blacks constitute too small a percentage of the population...and perhaps because their districts have been gerrymandered.
Thanks for the map, but its not exactly what I'm looking for since it mixes in a lot of other races and only specifies which demographic is higher than national average. Its nothing like the population density map.
Since blacks vote approximately 95% to 5% democrat (19:1 ratio), their electing power is greatly enhanced. Whites only vote republican on about a 53% to 47% ratio. In effect, most white votes (and other demographics for that matter) simply cancel each other out. Only about 6% of white votes actually survive the cancelling out process while 90% of black votes do.
Black voters are more concentrated in urban areas which is exactly where Democrats tend to do very well.
BTW, the maps do not cleary show that Bush was elected by white mormons and white evangelicals. Votes are interchangable, so any demographic can be considered the difference maker.
Dick Morris is giving the credit to hispanic voters since they Bush gained about 15 percentage points from that group from 2000. Any sizable group can really take the credit for putting Bush over the top.
