As I told my cousin, who called from San Francisco to whine, even in California, there was more Bush-red than Kerry-blue--except in a few high population areas. Even so, the middle America support for Bush is hardly a myth. I know. I live in flyover country myself.

I've got my own version of the Democratic Seal, but don't know how to upload the JPEG. This is my first time posting.

Hicks also said all your Hollywood superstars and music superstars don't convince me. In fact they make me want to vote the opposite.

Lots of freepers live in cities. We just happen to have that inner country boy which speaks wisdom to us. And he sounds a lot like Zell Miller.

BRAVO! I couldn't agree more!

I live in Boston and have for 40 years. My jobs have taken me all over America and the world. I was also educated in some of the "elite" universities here.

In the Northeast, West Coast and some other metro areas, it is like an echo chamber - all these people hear are their own voices. The press, politicians, activists, etc., feed off each other's delusions.

They have no idea what the real America is like or what the average American feels or thinks. It is like a nice warm cocoon and there is no great desire to see what is outside of it since they think it is filled with knuckle-dragging neanderthal monsters.

Traditional voices inside the echo chambers are oppressed. They are called racists, homophobes, Jesus freaks, bigots, intolerant, greedy, etc., etc. They are kept from expressing their opinions except through outlets like talk radio and the Net. Political correctness if forced upon them and their children are turned against them through a systematic public school indoctrination program.

Some leave the cocoon for a more accepting environment in a Red State while others, simply keep their mouths shut.

The good news is, the open-minded, diversity loving fascist liberals don't get it at all and are not likely to any time soon. This guarantees Republican control over the Federal Government for generations to come. This increased national power holds out hope that the the oppressed majority stuck inside these cocoons will find a way to rise up and be heard.

This was right on, except the part about not voting for W because we like him. I do like him! It's so nice to have a good example to point to when I tell kids that they could be the President of the United States.

Aside from the fact that some of us really DO like what we see in GWB, a pretty good piece.

Back before the Iowa caucuses (Rush's "Hawkeye Caucii"), Howard Dean was the presumptive winner out here, and there was - to appearances - lukewarm support for John Kerry. Yet portents of things to come were there to see...

Carole King came to Dubuque, singing and strumming for John Kerry. Carole King! An aging, tree-hugging, lefty songwriter (and sort-of singer) from Noo Yawk comes out here to tell the party faithful that John Kerry has all the answers. That was the first indication I had that the "entertainment" types were willing to go into the tank for someone who would have to improve to even be called "flawed." The condescention these people showed when in low gear was bad enough, but when they put it in overdrive, the effect was nauseating- apparently none of them had considered that a hectoring lecture by "our intellectual/cultural betters" might get under our skin.

By the time it was over, I had become (and remain) so pi$$ed at these overcompensated celebrities shilling for Lt. Nuance that I, too, would have voted for GWB out of spite.

But I didn't have to.

We both can agree that there are things that GWB has done that give pause, but overall, he has vision.

I think that vision is what has unhinged the left. They can't challenge what he has begun without giving away their stance as Marxists. Hence the namecalling and insane hate. They slather and drool with it.

the only choice for people with any intelligence

Must be nice to be the one who can set the parameters for what passes as acceptable intelligence.

Self serving sanctimony.

Hey lemura, then how do you account for the fact that Torrance County, one of the poorest counties in New Mexico, one of the poorest states in the union, votes for Republican Presidents over and over. You need to go hang out with the "elites"

Wrong, we *also* like George Bush. There is nothing wrong with George Bush. There never was. The left wing hatred of him is ginned up out of whole cloth, and in fact they hate him for precisely two things - one he is an actual American patriot, and two he keeps them from ruling the world. Which are also Bin Laden's objections to him, incidentally.

Exactly how I think too. Any doubts about GW were removed by all the musicians and actors putting out for John Kerry. Springsteen was pathetic at the end with his acoustic guitar and harmonica holder... doing his best Dylan imitation... appearing with John Kerry at numerous rallies.

I think you're right. Just like the dims, too ignorant to listen. They would rather lecture the rest of us? Maybe all the ultra libs should go create their own party and see how far the get!

Dear OpusatFR,

"...he has vision."

Absolutely. But I'm not sure that everyone who voted for him agrees with this statement.

"They slather and drool with it."

I think that's a key part of what the author is saying. And that regular Americans reacted to that liberal perspective, and many were persuaded to vote for President Bush as a result of it.

Is it universally true? No. But is it a good observation, along with many other good observations in this piece? I think so.

Some leave the cocoon for a more accepting environment in a Red State while others, simply keep their mouths shut.

And didn't dare put Bush/Cheney bumper stickers on their car for fear of it being trashed. Many stoically kept mouths shut then gloatingly pulled the Republican lever in the comfort and privacy of the voting booth. It is their right as Americans of the silent majority.
