Tommy doesn't like Washington. While he is popular, he would do more good as Governor. There is a rumor he would run for Governor, but that's all it is...a rumor. He has the apparatus still in place, but it is personal rather than party strength.

We have Scott Walker, present County Executive in Milwaukee County, who might be able to challenge Herb. Kohl is barely in the state any longer and spends his time in Jackson Hole, WY. Kohl is also getting old, while Scott is young, good-looking and dynamic.

Our problem in WI, IMO, is the University areas. If you look at the blue vs red breakdowns in WI, the problem areas are a blotch in the south and west that center on union and university towns, with pseudopods running out into the rural areas. Lots of voter fraud from the universities. However, they may not risk that in 2006 if Congress and the state legislature get some laws in place to counter it. We did have to register this time, for the next election cycle, and even though we have lived in our area for 31 years and the election workers know us, we had to show official photo ID.

If W comes through in the next two years on the issues that matter here, we might have a shot. I live in one of the SW counties. I know we had fraud from several universities around us. But we have a lot of professors, aging leftie activists and retired union types here and that is a major problem. OTOH, we sent 2 conservatives to the state legislature. If they can build a real constituency over the next 2 years, that will help. I believe that they can, but we'll have to see.

I was hoping to get rid of Feingold this year. Wish there had been a better opponent. I don't know if Scott Walker is sufficiently well known to win against Kohl. If what you say about Kohl is the case then he may be ripe for the picking and Walker could win. Kohl should be a target for sure though. I live in Racine County and we did go for Bush but I believe they also went for Feingold. As far as election reform in the state goes though until we get rid of Doyle we may be out of luck. The Assembly and Senate voted for reform and he vetoed it. Until we get reform I believe voting fraud is going to be the law of the land in Wisconsin.

I don't think Scott Walker at all would be a good pick to run for Senate. He has his eyes on becoming Governor, and will have a pretty darned good shot at it. A Republican that can win 60% of the vote in Milwaukee County has a very good shot at winning statewide office. Tommy Thompson again would be great as Governor, but Tommy should consider stepping aside and letting the young guns of the party take a shot.

For the Senate seat I think Paul Ryan would be the best to take on Kohl (if Kohl runs again). Ryan's only 34 years old, wildly popular in his district (1st District, Racine/Janesville/South Milwaukee), won with about 70% this year), and has already served 3 terms in the House. Mark Green could also be a solid choice as well. 44 years old, very popular in the 8th District (Green Bay area), but he reportedly has his eyes on the Governorship.

The WI GOP is fortunate to have a lot of very bright young stars. Hopefully they can get move them on up soon.
