I don't want to rain on the parade, but there is a factor in this election that deservers serious attention. Much has been made of the fact that Bush won more votes than any other prez candidate in history, but the truth is that Kerry's vote total was also higher than any other candidates' before this election. And this is with the Dems running one of the most liberal candidates ever.

To me, it's easy to see what the Dem strategy will be, and how easily it could work. All they have to do is peel off a few votes from the Republicans, to keep them from coming to the polls. And frankly, history shows that Republicans could easily blow it when holding the presidency and the legislative branches. Look at Clinton's overeach in 1992 and the only thing that saved him was Perot in both elections. He still ended up losing the legislature.

RE post 5. Ditto Minnesota. And if you could ELIMINATE urban voter fraud (Detroit, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Philly) those states could have gone repub this year.

The Democrats ran as strongly as they did for two reasons: the mainstream media covered up the weaknesses of their candidate and they hated Bush. It was NOT principally a vote for Kerry. And he had nothing positive to offer the voters. I'm not surprised they came as close as they did. In 2008 Bush will not be on the ballot and the Democrats will have to run a completely different campaign. As for the question of overreach, this is a conservative country and voters want our government to entrench and preserve American values. They don't want big government and more meddling in their personal lives. As long as the government doesn't push liberal stuff down people's throats, it won't have to worry about an adverse reaction from the American people.

Other than creating an electoral safety margin for 2008, the primary issue isn't turning further states red, it's getting 60 solid red state senators. If and when that happens, all hell is going to break loose with the left.

They're already bitching that Bush isn't surrendering to them fast enough and they're royally pissed they lost. The next two years should be fun.

The heartland - Red State America is continuing to become redder. And the Democrats are still losing ground. Different strategy? As long as they're liberals - good luck in trying to put lipstick and a fresh coat of paint on a Democratic pig. A liberal pig is still a liberal pig.

All I hear from them is "We need to change our approach", "we need to appeal to the Christian conservatives."

And then they go right into their same old HATE BUSH SPEECH.

I just laugh to myself. They just don't get it and I sleep better at night because they don't.

The Republicans have to do more organizing on college campuses especially in states with same-day registration (i.e., Wisconsin, Minnesota). The fact that all the pretty girls are Republicans should help!

I can't wait to hear the Democrats "talk religion" -- Jesus would want babies killed in the womb! Jesus would exult in sodomy!

No more same day registration in WI.

We all had to register, with photo ID, at the polls for the next election. We were calmly told to do this after we voted and that it was now *law*. This in a county w/459 eligible voters where the election workers know everyone who shows up by sight.

I agree. And he is slick. He and his handlers promote him as "heinz 57"...he is everyman rolled into one. The MSM will be his biggest supporter (they already are). And anyone disagreeing with him will be "racist" and "bigotted". If Hillary truly has her sights on the whitehouse, there will be a major battle. Because obama doesn't seem like someone who will take a backseat to anyone. And obama's wife doesn't seem like someone who will encourage her husband to be anyone's side-kick. She seems like she wants to be first lady, not second lady in waiting.

Dick Harpootlian, former chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party, was more blunt. "As of now, Hillary Clinton's a bad idea," he said.

Hillary Clinton's always a bad idea, no matter what the time, place and/or circumstances. :)

Hasn't she always been a bad idea? Why only as of now?

"we need to appeal to the Christian conservatives." And then they go right into their same old HATE BUSH SPEECH.

They don't even see it. It's the blind hate they spout which is exactly what makes Christians run away from them. And they can't disguise how much they loathe religion of any sort, even if they're trying to play being 'open-minded'. Or 'tolerant'.

The fact that they don't know how transparent their sham is to us is what makes it so humorous.
