CA: Orange County imam arrested (ICE'd) on immigration violations (pending charges 'administrative')

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - An Egyptian man who served as an imam at an Orange County mosque was arrested on immigration violations, federal officials said Friday.

Wagdy Mohamed Ghoneim was arrested Thursday morning at his home in Anaheim, said Lori Haley, spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He was held without bail at a federal detention facility pending an immigration court hearing next week.

Ghoneim worked as an imam at the Islamic Institute of Orange County in Anaheim, Haley said. She described the pending charges against him as "administrative" but did not elaborate.

A call to his defense attorney, identified by federal immigration officials as Ban Al-Wardi, was not immediately returned. The institute did not return a call seeking comment either.

FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said the agency was not involved in the arrest. She wouldn't confirm or deny whether the FBI was investigating Ghoneim.

Further details were not immediately available.

As I live in OC, this one hits close to home. And the video from the American jihadi broadcast a few days ago, had OC connection.

As far as I'm concerned, any muslim caught here on immigration violations deserves immediate deportation, and revoked visiting priviledge for life.

Any of them can be expected to lie to the max. Any of them caught in a lie should be presumed a threat, immediate deportation.

It is okay with me if occasionally they just disappear. In time of war I'm not much concerned with the civil rights of the enemy.
