Britsh columnist Greg Palast, who fancies himself as a kind of Michael Moore for across the pond, insists in today's column that John Kerry won the majority of the vote in Ohio, and -- at least by his reckoning -- won the election.
Palast tries to use CNN's exit polling data to justify his outlandish position, completely ignoring the actual counts from the state Secretary of State's office. He incredibly attempts to use the race card to further bolster his insane position.
At 1:05 a.m. Wednesday morning, CNN's exit poll showed Kerry beating Bush among Ohio women by 53 percent to 47 percent. The exit polls were later combined withand therefore contaminated bythe tabulated results, ultimately becoming a mirror of the apparent actual vote. Kerry also defeated Bush among Ohio's male voters 51 percent to 49 percent.Palast also insists that the close victory in New Mexico also belongs to Kerry. He blames provisional balloting in that case. What Palast doesn't tell you is that the bulk of the provisional vote -- something the DEMOCRATS insisted on -- went for Democratic candidates (including Kerry), and Kerry still lost the state.the exit polls are accurate. Pollsters ask, "Who did you vote for?" Unfortunately, they don't ask the crucial, question, "Was your vote counted?" The voters don't know.
The election in Ohio was not decided by the voters but by something called "spoilage." Typically in the United States, about 3 percent of the vote is voided, just thrown away, not recorded.
And not all votes spoil equally. Most of those votes, say every official report, come from African-American and minority precincts.
Palast is one who rabidly hates the GOP in general, and the Bush Administration in particular.
Palast practically wanted to desecrate Ronald Reagan's grave, and insisted that he was "in hell" for what he had done in office.
What Palast has little consequence to anyone on this side of the Atlantic, but in the UK, he does his best to stir up as much anti-American sentiment as he possibly can.
Double-barrelled Mega-PING! to both lists! If you want on, FReepmail me!
My response to him is to take Dick Cheney's advice to Pat Leahy.
I don't think he is a Brit.
What an insufferable goof-ball.
Hey Dude:
If the polls are accurate predictors, then why have elections at all? Why not just poll?
LOL
Took the exact words out of my (green-toothed) mouth...
Too bad for the left, exit polls don't elect the President. That exit polls are what they'll base "selected, not elected" on this time shows that the poll watchers kept a lot of the fraud down.
Before reading the Palast article, remind yourself that Bush won, that nothing is going to change that, and this is simply a rant by a Marxist twit.
Once you do that, Palast's article is really quite hilarious. Unintentionally so, of course, but it's frankly one of the stupidest pieces of prose this side of Jane Smiley.
Just wish I could post the picture of the guy saying,"Not this S**T again!!"
Awesome! :)
Yes, the 280 Ohioians who answered the exit pollster is a better indication than the millions of votes that were cast.
We must have aimed poorly and missed one of his ancestors back in 1812. Brits are funny when they whine.
I didn't know communists (like Palast) believe it hell? ......although I can understand his being outraged at Reagan's primary accomplishment -- destroying communist Russia.
He is not a Brit. He is from the US. Notice I did not say "American." He deeply hates this country. But yes, he does work for the BBC.
Well, you don't expect Palast to believe the Ohio Secretary of State do you?
After all, the Secretary is a ...... a ....... a Blackamoor.
Bashing Brits in general? Nope. Not my intent. Just the Brit (and if he's not one, I apologize) who wrote the article that I'm talking about here.
Palast was in the Michael Medved show today. He had plenty of interesting things to say and we had a good thread.
