Well, it's time to clean out Foggy Bottom. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000087&sid=a.4Cgi42vYDY&refer=top_world_news
It would be tough working in the state department. I have heard there a lot of entrenched people who have a more liberal view of foreign policy and they buck republican administrations all the way.
Hopefully, he'll go back to CIA where he was for a long time a voice in the wilderness.

A Blog by career US Foreign Service officers. They are Republican (most of the time) in an institution (State Department) in which being a Republican can be bad for your career -- even with a Republican President! Join the State Department Republican Underground. FSOs (and others)
Here's an excerpt from today:
One of our Diplomads has burrowed deep within the bureaucracy at HQS back in Washington and sends us the following emailed report on reactions to the Bush win. We have edited out anything that might give the enemy information to identify our agent:
I was telling a friend who voted for Kerry my theory as to why so many State Dept weenies (Note: a technical term) have it in for Bush.
The tendency in the State Department is to believe that everything can be solved with diplomacy. For some reason, when military action becomes necessary, they refuse to accept it as if it is some sort of threat to their job security. (Which is silly, of course, because even in time of war, diplomacy is needed.)
This is the guy who told the President that "They will have flies on their eyeballs" talking about the Taliban and Al Qaeda before we conquered Afghanistan.
The purpose of an armed force is to put conditions in place such that diplomacy can be effective.
Actually, Cofer Black I believe is one of the pro-Bush CIA/State Dept people. Wrong guy to pick on.
Kofer is one of the good guys, yes.
And yes, the military does have a way of making diplomacy more attractive to our enemies.
