I am not questioning your veracity. I would like it to be real but you have to admit that I would expect a form letter by a senator to look more professional. What bothered me about this document is the header (it is uneven and looks like it was pasted to the document).

What also bothered me is if these points were put forth by Specter, why have we not heard about this before? Why would the President back him up knowing that such an incendiary document like this was out there? Why is there no signature?

I just wanted to approach this with a grain of salt.

I'm doing some independent reaserch. Haven't fount this letter yet, but it appears to be in harmony with Specter's stated position at the time:

Why Specter quit: no room for middle ground in party

Specter, certainaly at the time, was working to disempower the religious right (whatever that is), in particular as "led" by Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell. I'm sure he has no desire to hide that fact.

Bush and Santorum saved Specter, not because they really thought he was the best candidate for the Republican party. They just didn't want to take the risk that if Toomey lost, we would loose a Senate seat. I'd bet a lot fo money that if the Senate split wasn't so close, they wouldn't have made a such a concerted effort to back Specter. There was no way they could have known that we would gain 5 seats in the Senate. Remember that PA went for Kerry and Specter was a sure bet for the Senate if he could get through the primary against Toomey (which he did by the skin of his teeth).

Based on the latest news reports on this, it sounds like Bush is still supporting Specter for the Judiciary seat so any opposition will have to come from the Republicans on the committee. Keep it up with the calls and the letters.
