The car didn't notice the checkpoint, witnesses said.OK, but the people inside probably did.

The attack force includes one battalion from the Army's Texas-based 1st Cavalry Division, which has been placed under Marine command. The division's 2nd Brigade is relieving Marines of control of surrounding farmland and villages. Army unit under Marine command?
If that isn't grounds for desertion, I don't know what is!

Put a fence around it, cover it with a big pair of panties, and call it Fallujah Prison.

If they fight, American troops will face an estimated 3,000 insurgents dug in behind defenses and booby traps. Military planners believe there are about 1,200 hardcore insurgents in Fallujah - at least half of them Iraqis. They are bolstered by insurgent cells with up to 2,000 fighters in the surrounding towns and countryside. Fascinating information. It's awesome to be privy to this.

Missing in everyone's response to this article is that while the poticians are proceeding slowly and talking and giving the terrorists yet another chance to disarm and comply, they launch a rocket attack that kills an American soldier and wounds 3.
Time to stop talking about "windows closing."
To: JustaCowgirl
Typical AP. Never do they mention the Iraqi Army units fighting for their country.

Somehow I think it's going to be different this time, since we don't have to listen to any advice from Horseface.
But if hear, even once, "Operations have been suspended pending the negotiation of a cease fire", I'm gonna puke.

...and U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan has warned U.S., British and Iraqi authorities that a military campaign and "increased insurgent violence" could put elections at risk.
Pardon my abbreviation but WTF? Is Coffee-Can-Anon saying that the insurgent-created violence will detract from the elections, or the violence that is requires to suppress and eliminate the insurgents will detract from the elections? This idiot has got to go!
