Democrats are up in arms this week, trying to figure out how, after the largest effort in recent memory to defeat a political opponent, they could have failed so handily.
Two items that keep getting discussed are the mandate they refuse to admit exists, and "the issues."
The Mandate is obvious. As has been posted on Freep several times, Bush had at least 40% of the vote in all but 4 states. He won by 3.5 million votes, spread over 2.51 million square miles. Not only that, Republicans gained seats in Senate, bringing their majority to 55, and gained seats in the House. OBVIOUSLY the American people wanted "more of the same." I'm not sure how that ISN'T a mandate.
On "the issues," the Left keeps trying to debase it to A) ignorance, and B) religion. They say they are baffled at how people could vote Republican when the "majority of American values" are in lockstep with the Left. Unfortunately, they delude themselves (though I guess this is wont to happen when they surround themselves with like-minded Lefties). The majority of Americans *want* some form of restrictions on abortion--they don't. The majority of Americans *want* marriage defined as a heterosexual union--they don't. The majority of Americans *don't* see a crucifix in a bucket of urine as art. The majority of Americans *do* hold their religious faith dear (a fact that does not make them weak-minded or stupid)--they do not. The majority of Americans *don't* want high taxes to pay for government programs. In terms of values, we ALL share some of the Left's dreams--end to poverty, affordable healthcare for all, quality education, safety in the world.
If the Left continues with the delusional idea that the majority of us share their values, they will KEEP losing. It doesn't require them to market their ideas better, it requires them to COMPROMISE. They must accept that, if they want the power they so desperately seek, they will have to move to the right a little more--let go of the fanatic Left-wing ideology to which they cling so blindly.
Just my two-cents.
Very nice post-----thanks!
If we're lucky, the libs will all leave.
I'm not sure a mandate exists either. Anyway you cut it, about 150M out of 210M voting age Americans didn't vote for W. That fact won't be lost on the RINOs in the Senate.
