Edwards Positions Himself for 2008
AP ^ | Nov. 5, 2004 | Liz Sidotti

Democrat John Edwards lost the election for the vice presidency this week and will lose his Senate seat in January. But he's hardly going away. He's positioned himself for a full-out presidential run in 2008, a campaign that in a way he's already begun.

For now, though, politics is on hold. His wife, Elizabeth, was diagnosed with breast cancer this week just after Democrat John Kerry and running mate Edwards conceded the race to President Bush.

"Together, our family will beat this," Edwards said on Thursday in a statement that made clear her treatment would be the focus of his immediate future.

Longer range, the North Carolina senator with the good looks, Southern charm, rags-to-riches biography and "tomorrow can be better than today" pitch is in the top rank of candidates expected to compete for the White House in four years.

Good...I'd like to see him, Hillary, Howard Dean, Al Gore, and Al Franken all run in the 08 Dem primaries

We need to start a pro-Dean group. I think it's one of the best ways to sidetrack Clinton.

Edwards gave up his Senate seat to run for veep. Burr won Edwards' seat year. There is no North Carolina Senate seat up for grabs in '06. Elizabeth Dole won the other seat in '02, so NC won't have a Senate seat in play till '08.

If he could have carried NC for Kerry they would have been within striking distance. Seems like Edwards brought nothing to Kerry. Perhaps he was even a drag on the ticket.

Fortunately!

As long as that 'hair video' is still available for circulation, this guy's fighting an uphill battle for credibility.

The guy is a nut. but if that's the democrat ticket, we will have a good laugh watching them self destruct. Kerry has no plans of stepping down.

Good luck getting meaningful prayer from her base. You have to believe in the lord for prayer to work.

I guess we will have to pray for her And I will. I know what cancer is all about as well. My wife is a survivor.

He has to run in 2008 - if he doesn't, Christopher Reeve will never be able to walk again.

Edwards Positions Himself for 2008

This is truly laughable. What this guy or his supporters are thinking is hard to imagine. The only thing I can come up with is speculation on what they are referring to as 'positions'. Perhaps on his hands and knees or something.

Rush has always said that the more you fail in the Democratic party the more they love you and want to prop you up for the next time.

They didn't do that for Gore.

I certainly pray for Mrs. Edwards ... that she survives this cancer and gets well. I also pray for Mr. Edwards (we don't have to call him Senator anymore!) ... that he goes back into private practice as a lawyer and stays out of politics.

Doesn't he have to run again in '06 for his Senate seat in NC?

The Breck Girl is unemployed as of January '05.
