You are dreaming. Specter will be Judiciary chair, and he'll do a good job for the President. He owes his political survival to the President.

I would not at all be surprised to have the White House even carve out a hero's nitch for Specter by the end of 2005-06.

Keeping the heat on Specter, Frist and the GOP caucus is useful, but the Republicans are not gonna break precedent and deny Senator Specter his seniority and with it the chairmanship.

Additionally, Frist is running for President in 2008. He knows that if Specter doesn't get the job done, Frist's presidential ambitions are TOAST, because the base controls the levers to the nomination.

The day after the election, he was quoted (mistakenly he says) by AP as warning Bush not to think he was going to get any anti-abortion judges through -- or words to that effect. His campaign said he was misquoted or quoted out of context or something. (There's a thread around on the transcript; I didn't read it myself.)

You are dreaming

So .... are you saying that it is futile to try to send a message when we see a problem .... I can give you numerous examples where an out pouring of public comment got their attention and brought about change.....

Oh yes, I remember jackbill. As far as I'm concerned being a lawyer should automatically exclude you from being in the Senate or the House........oh well, I can dream, can't I?

OK, I just called Orrin Hatch's office -- got a message machine, so I left a message. I'm from California, so there's no way I can call my own senators (Boxer and Feinstein).

Hope this helps.

sent letter to FristThe Honorable Senator Frist:

bill_frist@frist.senate.gov

The Honorable Senator Frist:

Specter has thrown down the gauntlet...quite brazenly.

We are now watching to see if you will cede the field, or stand and deliver.

We didn't come this far to have President Bush's (and yours too,) MANDATE elbowed aside by one who is determined to impose HIS ideology on the Supreme Court with a litmus test re: Roe vs Wade.

He trumpets the liberals modus operandi - accusing the conservatives of what the liberals are actually doing.

These people will not recognize that a Republican President has every bit the right in choosing judges as a liberal president. They demand that THEY get to choose as they see fit, but that a Republican President ALSO must bow to their choice.

We have a mandate now as never before. It was a disgrace to give in to the democrats last time in sharing power and committees and in letting them get away with the "60 votes" debacle.

We are watching to see if you have the backbone to stand behind the mandate we delivered to you - and we will remember, whichever way you choose. Please remember where the strength is now. We're behind you. Don't fritter away our power.

Thank you, Sincerely,

P.S. Do not hide behind Specter's "pull back' rhetoric. That is simply another liberal ruse: when slapped hard up side the head, they mouth whatever will get them a pass. He is not sincere. His true colors have been unveiled.

Yes, he was elected in a "blue state" that voted for Kerry. However, Kerry's victory was 51-49% (hardly a landslide), and similar to the country-wide election map by county for president, PA's county map was blue on the edges, but predominantly red. Add in the factor that there was most likely widespread fraud, especially in Philth-a-delphia, then the margin was probably much less, and possibly could have turned PA "red".

This has been a daily debate on the PA message board since before the primary. It's unfortunate that Toomey lost in the primary; had he won, PA would have 2 firmly-conservative Senators. The alternative in the general election, Joe Hoeffel, wasn't any better (the lib Dem candidate), and was probably worse than Snarlin' Arlen.

At the Bush rally in Scranton (the morning after his acceptance speech at the RNC convention), both Santorum and Arlen gave speeches prior to Dubya. Santorum got overwhelming applause, and Arlen got boos. I think it's safe to say that Arlen is not strongly supported by true PA conservatives.

I am just saying that the GOP caucus is not going to deny Senator Specter his rightful chairmanship based on the rules and seniority considerations of the Republican caucus.

I do think it is useful to keep the heat on Frist and Specter.

However, it is really not necessary, because both men want the President to transform the federal judiciary. They will get the job done for the President.

Additionally, Senator Frist is running for President. If he wants any legitimate shot at the nomination, he has to make Specter deliver.

" because both men want the President to transform the federal judiciary"

Do you really believe given a choice - Specter would "transform" the judiciary to look the way the majority of the conservatives want it to look?.....

What is your take on the timing and tone of Specter's statements - have you read the entire transcript?

There are few if any > whose record if you go back over 30 or 40 years, and not find some > dumb thing, I don't want you to take a to close a look at my 40 year > record.

a quote from interview with Specter about combing over the record of any proposed judge

give you any ideas?

time to use the same scrutiny on the scrutinizer?

He never denied the quotes attributed to him, since he was videotaped saying them. He should have been more careful about what he said, or at least had his remarks reviewed by someone before he put his foot in it.

B.S. He's rated an "A" by the NRA, that's good enough for me. If you have other information, why not share it with NRA members, like myself, who would be very interested.
