DES MOINES, Iowa - President Bush (news - web sites) won Iowa on Friday, claiming the last three states of the 2004 presidential election.

Although Democratic Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites) had already conceded the race for the White House on Wednesday, the counting of absentee ballots continued in Iowa, which had been too close to call.

By Friday, Bush had 745,980 votes and Kerry had 732,764 with the number of outstanding ballots too few to change the outcome.

Long after the polls closed on Tuesday, Bush won Ohio, which gave him the 270 electoral votes necessary for a second term, and New Mexico.

With Iowa decided, Bush had 286 electoral votes and Kerry 252.

In 2000, Democrat Al Gore (news - web sites) won Iowa and New Mexico, which went for Bush this year. The only Democratic switch was New Hampshire, which went for Bush in 2000.

Iowa will not certify the results until Nov. 29.

Kerry began campaigning in Iowa nearly three years ago. His surprising win in the Jan. 19 caucuses over a slate of eight other candidates gave him the momentum to claim the Democratic nomination.

Those beautiful words brought tears to my eyes. The good people stood up and voted and God blessed us BIG TIME!

"Tom Daschle is deeply sadde-- Oh, wait... Who cares."

Isn't that just the icing on the cake?

Were giving them too much there. We should just confine them to their Blue counties, and then put electrified barbed wire fencing around them....

There are good folks everywhere -- even in Massachusetts. If Canada had had votes, Alb. and Sas. just might have voted Bush. Quebec, on the other hand, ...

It would look a lot more prettier if we can get Wisconsin.

We'll get WI & MN both in 08 - should be able to pick up a Senator from MN next time.

I was wondering that (about Wisconsin), too: I see no changes at all from the election night numbers, and the Wisconsin elections website is almost completely worthless. Both Yahoo and CNN are showing the same 11,800 vote margin from before. There is no news I can find on updates from that state.

They did call Ohio for President Bush and they also called New Mexico for him as well. You can go CBS news web site and go to their electoral map and you will find it.

Just to irritate all the Liberals I know, I tell them Bush is going to run again in 2008. When they tell me he can't run again, I remind them they said Bush was "selected" not "elected" in 2000 so Bush has one more term left.

They go ballistic. Such a wonderful sight to see.

I wonder when the NYT and CNN will update their maps to show Bush winning Iowa and New Mexico. I noticed Bush lost PA by about the same number that Kerry lost Ohio.
