Bush Wins Iowa to Claim Last Three States

DES MOINES, Iowa - President Bush (news - web sites) won Iowa on Friday, claiming the last three states of the 2004 presidential election.

Although Democratic Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites) had already conceded the race for the White House on Wednesday, the counting of absentee ballots continued in Iowa, which had been too close to call.

By Friday, Bush had 745,980 votes and Kerry had 732,764 with the number of outstanding ballots too few to change the outcome.

Long after the polls closed on Tuesday, Bush won Ohio, which gave him the 270 electoral votes necessary for a second term, and New Mexico.

With Iowa decided, Bush had 286 electoral votes and Kerry 252.

In 2000, Democrat Al Gore (news - web sites) won Iowa and New Mexico, which went for Bush this year. The only Democratic switch was New Hampshire, which went for Bush in 2000.

Iowa will not certify the results until Nov. 29.

Kerry began campaigning in Iowa nearly three years ago. His surprising win in the Jan. 19 caucuses over a slate of eight other candidates gave him the momentum to claim the Democratic nomination.

No, cbs has not yet done that. They want to be sure, you know.

But they did just call Florida for GWB! Isn't that great?! Yah!!!!!!

Maybe by January, cbs will call Ohio.

I think absentee is the wave of the future. It seems to present more opportunities for shenanigans.

Wisconsin will go for Bush if the military vote and provisional ballots are counted. Where can we find updates on this. If BUSH wins Wisconsin, then the Democrat idiots can't point at OHIO and say if only we had that state.

I don't know about NH.. but the difference was only 10000.

I figured she is still in the basement with the blinds drawn suffering from an "undisclosed malady".

Sad... but it is probably nothing that a bottle of Tanqueray and a box of white raisins can't cure!

The sign removal in this neck o' the woods was really remarkably rapid after Wednesday afternoon. Late in the day, I carefully peeled the BC'04 sticker from my car and placed it on my shop room's door (right under the sticker that was on my car in 2000).

Too bad.

Can Laura run for President in '08?

Of course she could. I doubt she would want to though

That map was shown on CNN. Great lets just write off Canada as a bunch of liberals even if that is not true!

I wonder what his map would have looked like when Carter and Clinton were in the White House and when Mulroney was the Canadian Prime Minister.

Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta all went Conservative in last election, as usual. Even BC elected more Conservatives than other parties - geographically that is half of Canada and if you include western Ontario even more than half.

Tom Harkin is up for re-election in 2006. He needs to go the way of Daschle. Big time.

The beautiful part of this election is, the RATS pulled out every stop and still got beat. That has to be very demoralizing.

On top of that, it's the first time since the Reagan landslide of '84 that Iowa went to the Republican.

"Demoralizing"? Little Chet Culver and Gov. Vil(e)sack must be practically suicidal. :-)

As you may already know, the one downside to the election in Iowa is that the Republicans lost their majority in the state senate; Ds and Rs are now split evenly. That may be the only thing keeping pretty boy Chet and the Vil(e)sack from falling on their swords. Drat!

I think that the original idea behind the graphic was the story about American liberal fleeing to Canada.

Aww, give CBS a break, they are busy trying to verify Dan Rather's fraudulent documents on Bush's National Guard service, they'll verify the election results right after they get that settled.

Of course, FoxNews hasn't called Iowa, and CNN refuses to call either Iowa or New Mexico. A pox on the entire media.
