Students at Colo. High School Protest Bush
Fri Nov 5, 2:59 AM ET U.S. National - AP
BOULDER, Colo. - About 85 high school students upset about the nation's direction were camping out in the school library, demanding an audience with Republican leaders.
Students began their protest Thursday and school officials said they could stay through Friday when representatives of their Democratic congressman, U.S. Rep. Mark Udall (news, bio, voting record), and U.S. Senator-elect Ken Salazar, were expected to visit.
The students said they also wanted to meet with thier superintendent's representatives along with Republicans Gov. Bill Owens and U.S. Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (news, bio, voting record).
Some of the students left telephone messages with Republican leaders.
"We want them to reassure us that our fears are misguided and that the government is doing everything in its power to prevent our futures from being destroyed," said senior Brian Martens, who wore a hand-lettered T-shirt which said he was the "senior executive of the subcommittee on protesting stuff."
Paddle their butts and march them back to class.
Send them draft notices.
who the hell do they think they are?
These kids parents should be held accountable for such ridiculous behavior.
Future leaders of the DNC. Ignore them and let them have their fifteen second sound bite on CNN.
agreed...
No draft notices - the military doesn't want them.
Sorry, Brian, the one and only reason we elected Bush was to keep you down for your entire life. It may destroy the economy, the environment and life on earth but it will be worth it.
I would guarantee you that at least the ringleader was encouraged by his folks.
I wish I was principal of that school ... our student/teacher ratio would look MUCH better once I expelled those 85 sluggards!
Ignore them until they learn some manners.
(The draft notices post was too funny!)
To prevent duplication, please do not alter the heading. Thanks.
Um, I think he means unfounded.
They're obviously misguided.
Guess the inmates are taking over the asylum. It is about time we had some discipline in the schools.
Tell them to go back to class. Learn some History. Acquire some skills in the formulation and communication of ideas. Learn the art of logical reasoning from Math class, and worry about their future when it's time for them to pay the bills, do the shopping, show up for work, and carry on the responsibilities of life.If they attend to those matters they will be able to assure their own future.
High school students should have outgrown throwing tantrums by that age, but I suspect mommy and daddy have indulged the little darlings so much they actually believe the world revolves around them.
Probably all the library is used for at this school.
