Dan Rather loses it (Free Republic Mentioned)

Dan Rather, the CBS anchor who is well past his sell-by date, was verging on losing it in the early morning hours of November 3. Ed Bradley had carried out a mathematical calculation that showed that George W. Bush needed only to obtain 15 per cent of Ohio’s absentee and provisional ballots to win the state and the presidency. A visibly upset Rather then came out with one of his famous Danisms--just because a chicken has wings, doesn’t mean it can fly.

In a poignant comment, Bradley defended himself by saying that he wasn’t making the math up--the figures came from Republicans in Ohio. This is what the mainstream media has degenerated into--a journalist forced to admit that he’s reporting something and not making it up.

The Dan just couldn’t bring himself to consider the possibility that George W. Bush could win Ohio and a second term. And when Rather next called upon Bradley, he introduced him as “Ed Bradley who is not a mathematics professor”. Bradley then piped up that he did in fact teach math at one point in his life.

some viewers, then after DAN RATHER retired they
would get some young conservative to Anchor.

That's EXACTLY why I was watching! It was GREAT!! The dude was TOTALLY CLUELESS and wouldn't give it up no matter what Bradley was saying!

I LOVE the smell of a GOOD MELTDOWN in the morning... It smelled like VICTORY... and it WAS!!

Ol' Dan's rathered that sayin' too. I've heard that saying for 'bout as long as dirt was created - although it was wrong. I saw chickens fly into a 20ft high Mimosa to roost - and they used their wings to do it....

How many of you saw Letterman's clips of Rather's cornball "sayings" he blathered during his coverage of the returns? It was hilarious watching him try to appear as just another "good ole boy" who just fell off the turnip truck.

I don't know why he wanted to create that image, unless maybe he thought his desperate spinning of the returns would have more credibility if he appeared to be like he and his liberal friends think all of us right-wing low-brow religious nuts are like.

We turned to CBS around 10:00 pm Pacific

I fell asleep around 8 eastern (rough day) and woke up at 4AM to see who had won. I didn't even turn the volume up. I could tell by Dan's sad, haggard demeanor that Bush had won. (Priceless)

When I was a kid my uncle raised white leghorn broilers on his farm. They were what are now called "free range" chickens, although back then they were just ordinary barnyard chickens. Every evening a few of the more adventurous ones would fly up to roost in the tops of the tall pines behind the chicken house. If they couldn't fly they sure gave a good impression of flying.

I think ole farmer Dan needed to refine his "aw shucks" hayseed act a bit before going public with it on election night. He still came across as an elitist left-wing snob talking down to the unwashed masses just as he always has.
