AFIAC, Gays can do whatever they want. And they should have the same protections/rights as married couples.

Just don't demand we sanctify it by calling it marriage.

You are absolutely right. The only problem I have with gay marriage is that they want to call it marriage. I'm sorry but that simply is not marriage, the actual definition of marriage is between a man and a woman. I think they should be afforded the same rights as normal people, these anti-gay marriage ammendments in 11 states (at least in my state of Utah) seem only to target gays and specifically single them out as not worthy of the same rights as normal people. If they would only concede to calling it something else ( like civil union or something) then it would be acceptable.
I believe the gay lobby is simply trying to attack a tradition and redefine it as something of their design to be able to snub their nose at christians specifically. The stubborn desire to call it something that it is not seems like an elaborate attempt to offend people.

Exactly, it is about government sanctification. The left remains oblivious to their own fervent, blatant desire to establish Liberalism as a state religion.

Trust me, the whole civil unions thing is just as bad an idea as "marriage." Check the links below.

Results of gay marriage (and Vermont-style civil unions) in Scandinavia.

Results of gay marriage in Holland

Where it will lead sociologically.

More on Holland (and why contraception, secularization, etc. aren't the reason for the European problems)

Let's be nice, live-and-let-live libertarian types, just like in Canada.
(In Sweden and Canada gay activists got parts of the Bible made "illegal." Do we want to encourage them in the USA?)

Why libertarians should stand up against gay marriage.

Anything else is covered here.
