The picture now is markedly different. Unlike his father (who is remembered mostly for ousting Iraqi troops from Kuwait in 1991, putting pressure on Israel, and starting the Middle East peace process in Madrid), President George W. Bush is viewed with much suspicion in the Arab world.

I don't suppose he considers that GHWB wasn't confronted with Arab terrorism inside the U.S.?

And if they think GWB is "viewed with much suspicion in the Arab world", they obviously don't know how much suspicion Muslim Arabs have been viewed with since 9/11 in the U.S., (particularly in the long waiting lines at airports).

Does it occur to them at all that the American public aren't put on alert watches because of murderous Hindus, Buddhists, Rastifarians, etc? Every terrorist attack around the world going in recent years has been the work of radical Muslims, and they need to recognize that and stop acting innocent.

The spotlight is brightly trained on the Middle East.

The political landscape is changing. President Bush is right, freedom and democracy will change this region and make our children and grandchildren safer.

It would be negligent and derelict for our leadership - our president and congress - to ignore its effect on us.
