Dish on campaign trail follies (JOHN KERRY: "I Can't Believe I'm Losing To This Idiot")
NY Daily News ^ | November 4, 2004 | TRACY CONNOR

In the biggest fight of his charmed life, John Kerry swung between bewilderment and anger when things didn't go his way on the campaign trial.

"I can't believe I'm losing to this idiot," the Massachusetts Democrat sighed to a staffer when President Bush's poll numbers surged in April.

"Why the f--- didn't he take it?" he wondered when Republican Sen. John McCain refused to be his running mate a half-dozen times.

"It's a pack of f---ing lies, what they're saying about me," he shouted at an adviser as a group of Swift boat veterans stepped up attacks on his Vietnam War record while his team refused to let him respond.

Those are some of the behind-the-scenes stories from the year-long race for the White House revealed in a special Newsweek report out today. The magazine says Kerry's courtship of McCain to be his vice presidential candidate was far more intense than the public realized.

It started in August 2003, but kicked into high gear after Kerry nailed the nomination. He even offered to expand the veep's role to control defense and foreign policy. "You're out of your mind," McCain told Kerry. "I don't even know if it's constitutional, and it certainly wouldn't sell."

Kerry seemed stunned that McCain rebuffed him "after what the Bush people did to him," referring to the 2000 GOP presidential primary.

Certainly, McCain gets credit for his response.

But consider what this says about Kerry. In the midst of a war, he was prepared to farm out the responsibility for its conduct solely so that he might occupy the office.

In other words, he was running for the office not because he wanted the job, but because he wanted the title.

What a shallow, shallow man...

. "You're out of your mind," McCain told Kerry.

Truer words were never spoken.

The part I liked is the campaign taking Kerry's cell phone away from him. Seems that any time there was a big decision to make, he'd call about 100 friends to find out what they thought he should do. His vacillation in reaching decisions slowwed the whole campaign process.

And they thought he would make a good President!?

"Kerry, though, wouldn't go to any lengths for political gain. When Bill Clinton advised him to back laws banning gay marriage to pick up swing voters, he demurred, telling aides, "I'm not ever going to do that." "

That's right! Kerry only lies about the past, not the future.

Out of the Mouth - the heart speaks. What a great exaample of a Catholic huh? What a travesty this would have been to those of us who are commited Catholics - had he been elected!

Thank God - the Lord has not given up on our nation. God Bless America - and God Bless GWB!

"I don't even know if it's constitutional, and it certainly wouldn't sell."

That statement assumes that the RAT's would follow the constitution. I'm not a big McCain fan by any measure - but - this statement (if true) shows that he saw trouble with Kerry by the very nature of this offer.

With other ego's, this offer would have been snatched up in a second. I give McCain credit for passing it up.

His daughters are just as bad as he is. Some example set by a father to his children.

Heard this on Fox and Friends.

Kerry is every bit as nasty as we've been saying.

He is not a good man and he is not a nice man.

What? Did the press just sit on all of this stuff until after the election????

You know I am beginning to think the bias was not only ideology, but the anticipated increase in revenue if classless lowlifes moved into the White House. Bush years were awfully boring gossip wise- they wanted bubba years!

If only we could love him half as much as he loves himself!

Love of self and self importance (ego) will always be his stumbling block.

Thank God he is not our president.

Thank God for President Bush.

Bingo. Great analysis. Kerry wanted to "outsource" the most critically important duties of the presidency to a "moderate" Republician. Kerry would have been an incredibly weak leader; worse than Carter!
