Priority 1: Remove Specter from the Judciary (Day 2)
11-4-04 | Always Right

Posted on 11/04/2004 5:54:36 AM PST by Always Right

In Day One we established the need to remove Specter from the Judiciary. To sum it up:

1. Specter is in line to become Chairman of the Judiciary.
2. Specter yesterday showed he expects to obstruct Bush in nominating conservative judges.
3. Specter’s vision of a ‘balance court’ is the exact same rhetoric of Senator Kerry.
4. Specter will do whatever it takes to see the courts do not become conservative. Read his books.
5. Specter is a huge proponent of Rov v. Wade.
6. Specter was not elected President, but has threatened the President should he nominate conservative judges.
7. As Chairman, Specter has the power to kill Bush’s judicial nominations.

Now in Day 2, we must take action. Today’s goal is to create some BUZZ. We need to contact the conservative media, like Rush and Hannity and other radio talk shows. Contact FoxNews, Brit Hume, Tony Snow. Here’s an example:

Senator Specter’s remarks yesterday concerning Bush’s judicial appointments were disturbing. If nothing is done, Senator Specter is in line to be Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. We need a Chairman who supports our President and his judicial nominations in that position, not someone who is on record as wanting to obstruct the President’s judical appointments. This is a very critical position, and allowing Specter to become chairman would be no different than appointing Senator Kennedy. Specter’s vision of the court is 180 degrees off of President Bush’s. President Bush will have a difficult time enough getting appointments through, but it would be an insult if the biggest obstruction is getting past one liberal GOP Senator, especially one who Bush helped.

Also, provide them with links to yesterdays’s story, Specter warns Bush on high court nominations or the same story posted here on FreeRepublic, Specter warns Bush on high court nominations

We must not allow this back-stabbing liberal to veto President Bush’s victory.

Denial of judgeships was a central plank, if not the key one. With it, Thune took Daschle's clout trump card and turned it on it's head!"""

If the GOP allows Specter to continue Daschle's work of blocking conservative judge nominees, there will be trouble from the party's base.

Hatch has been no picnic to work with either. Nice guy, but there is much arm wrestling going on behind the scenes to get him to do the right thing. I have two big beefs with him -- 1) his handing of memogate (the Judiciary Committee memos incident, not Dan Rathergate) and 2) his willingness to capitulate to the Maryland senators' whining on Claude Allen. Allen has been in nominations purgatory not only because of Dem's obstruction but because of Hatch's unwillingness to push the issue.

He is FAR too concerned about what Ted Kennedy, Chuck Schumer, Dick Durbin and Pat Leahy think.

Thank you, I'd appreciate being added to your ping list. We can make this happen IF we take the necessary action.

Snooker Doesn't Know What He's Talking About
Keep the Heat on Specter - Ignore His Desperate Damage Control Efforts - Don't be Fooled!

Also, read these posts to see the history Specter has in obstructing pro-life judges and in saying that he will not allow them to be confirmed.

It is true that the AP reporter who wrote this story is the same one who smacked Santorum around on his gay marriage comments.

BUT. Having said that, Specter has not been helpful in this process and if he said anything even close to this, it reflects everything I have seen from him in the nominations battle thusfar.

Don't get me wrong. I'll work with the guy if I have to. But there is a tiny hope I have somewhere that Sessions would be chairman -- particularly since it was Specter who BORKED Sessions for his judicial nomination oh so long ago.

Phew. Would be nice. But I ain't holdin' my breath.

Laughing so much my sides hurt, let me collect myself. Kerry man ? You sure know me well. Check my posting history and you won't ask the question.

Let me state this as plainly as I can. I abhor abortion as much as the next.

I just want to win -- I am tired of arguing.

What do you want to accomplish? Getting rid of Roe v Wade or getting rid of abortions? Progress is made by changing minds, not auguring endlessly.

Well maybe that was true before, let's see how acts now. I agree he should have dealt with Allen last year but maybe he's waiting, again, till the election is over. Does the 4th circuit still have a seat open? As far as memogate goes I don't know what he did or didn't do about it, if he let it go that would have been a shame. He sounds like a primadonna.

But all that sounds like a personal beef you have with him, but why do you think it affect how he'd rule if he were a Supreme? I think he'd be a conservative justice especially if he has no one else to pander to except himself. Plus, it's a way to get him off the Committee and put Kyl or Sessions in charge. It might be a win-win situation. We don't have a prayer to put a conservative on the SC, Hatch might be the closest thing we have.

"Getting rid of Roe v Wade or getting rid of abortions?"

Both.

The media lie. Public opinion is heavily against 'abortion on demand.' What people want is something that they really always had: protection for the mother's life. Roe v. Wade was a strawman; the doctors always had the disgression to save the most viable life, and only elective abortion was ever illegal.

Hi, Ho, Hi, Ho, it's off the cliff we go. Again.

I am not arguing about abortion, it's all about how you spend your political capital and how the MSM will get you to waste it.

As an example, isn't it odd that this is one of the first stories to hit the wires after Bush wins. Is it actually true? Rush says it's not even true.

The MSM is working to get you all worked up as quick as possible so you can give them the ammo to blow you away. Why do you think the MSM planted the story.

I prefer winning.

Whew -- finally hooked me a live one. You win -- you are exactly right.

But the problem is still the MSM is out to help the dems. No way around it -- yet. If the MSM can plant the story, foster the lie that the conservatives are trying to get the people to do something the public is not prepared for, they got us -- again. I smell more than just a pinch of get those nasty Conservatives in these stories.

So we need strategery.

BTW -- I agree with most all that has been said on this thread. Might shock some, but I do. Spector has been an abomination for conservatives and conservative judges.

But I want to win, not just charge up the hill to fall off a cliff.

Perhaps a good start would be getting together a loose-knit group or 'committee' to get out the vote so to speak here on FR. There could be 5 or 6 folks (regulars) whose job would be to champion this cause and get people rallied to make contact here on FR and in society.

Just a thought.
