THE family of the Iraq hostage Margaret Hassan fear that she cannot stand more torment from her captors after they were told that she is seen on video collapsing unconscious to the ground as she begs for her life. Her sisters and brother could not bear to watch the film, but were given a graphic description of Mrs Hassan’s obvious distress as she faints while being taunted by a masked man.
A hooded figure is seen throwing a bucket of water over her as she lays sprawled on the floor. The 59-year-old Irish-born aid worker then struggles to her feet, soaking wet and shaking. Then her captor reportedly taunts Mrs Hassan while she starts to cry and buries her head in her hands.
Relatives were told of her mistreatment just before they made their first public plea for her release in Dublin on Tuesday. Her kidnappers have threatened that today they will hand her over to the terror group that beheaded Kenneth Bigley, the British hostage. The group, led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, has never been known to free a hostage.
Her employer, the charity CARE International, said that it was “profoundly distressed” at film of Mrs Hassan’s condition. The Arab broadcaster al-Jazeera said that it was sticking to its decision not to show the latest video of her in full for “humanitarian reasons”.
A network spokesman said: “She looks in a terrible state.”
They advance their cause through terror. Remember, they are terrorists.
So, let me get this straight: This Mrs. Hassan is married to an Iraqi Arab, has been living in Iraq for a long time, has an Iraqi passport, converted to Islam, and they still want to kill her? Well, if there had ever been any doubt, now it should be clear: These terrorists are racists. This is not about religion. Calling Islam the "religion of peace" is not going to appease these people. They want to murder all of us, kill everyone who isn't an Arab. Good to know.

But that's my point! Terrorism does not work on the western mind. The terrorists frighten only those individuals who are being terrorized at the time. We look upon the terrorists as deranged, not as fighters for the cause. They have an objective, but their methods are 180° bass-ackwards from obtaining that objective. The middle-eastern peoples may react the way the terrorists want when they do these acts, but westerners do not. Insanity is the act of doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result each time.....

Don't blame the victim, but the perpetrators. They have beheaded citizens of many nationalities who have come to rebuild Iraq and assist Iraqis, in much the same way that our troops are doing. Mrs. Hassan is apolitical and has been in Iraq for more than 30 years. She deserves our sympathy not our condemnation.

Yes it does. 99% of the women and at least half of the men on FR are terrified that they will be a victim of these terrorists.
They are incapable of making the decision to show the terrorists just what true sadistic revenge is. The killing of innocent people who are closely related to the terrorist himself.
They could not kill someones family just because that family has a son who is a terrorist and attacked them.
Now there will be a flash fire saying they will not, could not lower themselves to that level. That level is what these terrorists fully comprehend. That is the way they fight amongst each other. Whomever is the most vile is declared the winner.
When you are afraid that if you attack someone they will kill your entire family, children inluded, that gives you serious reason to think twice be starting the attack.

If they had once, just once, ever had to remove a American soldiers body that was burnt to a crisp from a firefight scene there would not have been any scorn for our prison guards.
By "to a crisp" I mean when you move an arm, it breaks off. When you try to lift the mans trunk, his legs break off.

I have trouble with your reasoning. You could say the same thing about victims of a plane crash, the WTC, etc. or our troops in Iraq. Wrong place at the wrong time. She made a decision 30 years ago to marry an Iraqi and settle in his country. She was engaged in humanitarian efforts. As I stated, you should direct your venom at the perpetrators and not the victim. Therein lies the fault and culpability.
That's not what I meant. Of course we are all terrified of an attack on our own loved ones. What I meant was, that the reaction of Americans is to destroy that which is a proven danger to us. I don't count EUROPEANS as western much less having a mind. They a more EASTERN in their reaction and mindset, i.e. France and Spain. Appease is their word for safe for now......
