Howard Dean doing ads for Yahoo
Launchcast ^ | 11/4/04 | N/A

I was listening to launchcast, the Yahoo internet radio station, and an ad for some new Yahoo service came on featuring none other then Howard "Scream Queen" Dean.

In the ad, Dean parodies his own infamous YEARRGGHHH! speech.

I can't say I ever pegged him as a man willing to engage in self deprecating humor...

I like Howard Dean. The Democrats would have done better for themselves if they'd run him. He wouldn't have won, but he is little more liberal than Kerry and doesn't have a track record as a traitor.

Although I hated everything he believed in, I always thought he was hilarious when it came to making fun of himself. No one made funnier jokes about that scream than he did in the speech he gave after that scream.

The guy is out of work - and I suppose going back to being "just" a doctor is too boring!

The Dean Yahoo ads actually started before election day.

It's funny that the Dems have convinced themselves that Dean is some kind of Internet fund-raising genius when he really had nothing to do with that part of his campaign. So yeah let's hope they put another dinosaur in there.

I really think we should root for Terry McWaffle to stay in there, since the longer he stays, the more Republicans win office.

But he was surprisingly astute at 8pm Election Day when he gave his evaluation of the day. (see tagline)

Honestly, I think this run was just Deans mid-life crisis.

His wife had this sort of, um yea, he's running, sort of attitude that kind of tipped off, she wasn't taking this to seriousley.

I'm not sure he's more liberal then Kerry. Alot of the DUers were fighting it over during the primary.

They felt Kerry was the more liberal one, but dean captured there "rage" better.

Dean though certainly did act more liberal.

I would be the happiest guy in the world if that happened.

However, the knives are out, and have been for some time for Terry. Carville, and his buddy Begula (or whatever the hell the co-hosts name is) are both openly gunning for that job along with a few others.

The only thing keeping Terry from being canned is Hillary and Bill, and at some point, they might not be able to save him, if they can't, Hillary's chances go poof in 2008.

Personally, I think Terry McAwfull has been looting and robbing the DNC blind.

In some strange way, I too find Howard Dean a compelling personality. I don't think he would've beaten Bush in the election, but he could've easily carried the same states as Kerry did. Let's hope we see more of this guy in the future for entertainment purposes.

Many at DU feel Kerry sold them out. Kerry's ADA rating is 93%, highest of all politicians. Not sure if ADA tracks governor records, but Amy Issacs, director of ADA went on record saying Dean is not a liberal. Source

I think the Dems would have been better with Lieberman. He is more moderate than the others. The party catered to it's left-wing extremists and paid the price.

Sen. Nelson from FL might have been another candidate - maybe 2008. Just a thought.

I was dying laughing the first time I heard the Naked Cowboy radio ad. Having seen the guy a couple of times in Times Square, I couldn't believe what I was hearing, that Yahoo was using him in an ad.

Sonny, I couldn't agree with you more. The problem is that when Pelosi and Daschle were in charge they were hard left. Now that Daschle is gone I think that there is going to be another shift back to center/left. That is why, in my opinion they might put Clinton (Bill) in that spot. That way he can get Hill onto the 08 ballot and use his "charisma" (?) to bring the faithful back home in time for 08 also. The problem is that no one sees Hillary as middle/left, only Bill. My guess is that if Hillary starts doing "bipartisan" work during this upcommng term it will be a sign that she is trying to soften her leberal label so she can point back to it when she runs. IMO. Your thoughts?

Your thoughts?

I have no doubt that she's a lefty, but her senate record is putting her pretty much in the middle.

To put it in perspective, Edwards (who lying and or misguidingly called himself a centerist) has a more liberal record the Hillary.

She's working on putting together a Joe Lieberman type record, with some liberal points that score well with voters. She's going to be the cross over and work together democrat. When legislation pops up, she'll be the one trying to moderate it for mass appeal, and establish herself as a bipartisian consensus builder.

She doesn't have to worry about the liberal base, she could spit on them, and they would vote for her, but she can start trying to grab the middle, and make sure her senate record is devoid of controversy, and unable to be labeled properly, then sweep a primary (unless she peaks to early or blows it) and still run right in a general election. Once in office (which I think will never be) she would be what Nader always dreamed of.

A politician who looks 8 years or more ahead, makes sure, that they politically innoculate themselves from dirt (either through a book, interviews, or just bring up the subject so many times that people become sick of hearing about it over and over again), and handle every vote, every issue, and every statement in a context as though it could be used against them, so the campaign can run clean and disiplined.
