Spector owes his Senate seat to Bush, who supported him in his primary challenge.

Spector needs to shut up and color.

Two things I'll say about Lott - as a back-bencher, he's a semi-decent leader; and as a leader, he's a great back-bencher.

If Frist lets Specter run Judiciary, we need to force the Gong Show on the Senate "leadership".

"What an arrogant SOB- if it weren't for GWB- he wouldn't have held his seat in PA."

He ran two basic themes in his TV ads; his consistent support of all things Bush, and W's strong support of him.

Of course that was yesterday.

The ingrate-RINO Specter doesn't have time to celebrate -- his ultra-leftist agenda simply cannot wait.

Is this just posturing? First time I have ever heard of a chairman of a committee publicly warning a president of his own party about anything!

Presumptive little son of a bitch, isn't he?

That pretty much was my first impression, too. Guess this clown didn't learn from Daschle's fate...

Oh well.

Specter is probably threatening that he will retire if not promoted to Judiciary Chair, allowing Dem. crook/hack Ed Rendell to appoint a Democrat successor.

"Republicans have term limits on committee chairmanships."
---

Now that they are in power they should vote for term limits for all Congressmen. Thats what they promised in 'contract with America'.....

Let's bring back the 'citizen politician'

Who gets to decide what extreme is?

In the short term, 100 Senators acting under the scrutiny of their constituents, and thus weighing the effect of approving or blocking a nominee on their re-election chances.

"The Club for Growth targeted Spector as a RINO and supported his challenger in the primary, Pat Toomey. Spector narrowly won with W's active support."

Bush chose politics over life. Bush got 4 years, Specter got 6 and we could have had Toomey.

There was one great happening. Abortion Greenwood did not run and was replaced by fully Pro-life Fitzpatrick.

But that rule expires at the end of this session of Congress.

I was under the impression that, unlike the House, the Senate views itself as a continuing body (since no more than about 15% of it's membership generally changes from election to election) and doesn't regard it's rules as needing to be re-voted at the beginning of each Congressional session.

But I'm not an expert in this matter; I could be wrong. If you have better information than I, I'd appreciate hearing it.

First, you can go here to send an e-mail to Frist:

http://frist.senate.gov/index.cfm?FuseAction=AboutSenatorFrist.ContactFormAct

(Don't know how to post hot link, just cut and paste)

Second, this is what I just sent:

Senator Frist,
I am writing to you in your position as Senate Majority Leader. I am very concerned that Sen Spector will be given the chairmanship of the Judiciary Committee. Senator Spector's history in not supporting Repblican nominated judges, his attacks on Judge Bork, and his threats to President Bush to block any judge he felt was too conservative call into question his ability to support Pres Bush's nominees. We have had the democrats block and stall the Presidents nominees for four years, we do not need to put in place a supposed Republican to assist them in hindering/blocking future nominees. We have fought too hard during this election to try to give you a larger majority. Do not waste our hard fought victories by letting Sen Spector have this critical position. Thank you for hearing me out.
