The Republican expected to chair the Senate Judiciary Committee next year bluntly warned newly re-elected President Bush on Wednesday against putting forth Supreme Court nominees who would seek to overturn abortion rights or are otherwise too conservative to win confirmation.

Let's ask Frist to handle this before we create a public divide on this eve of victory. We need to appear united for at least a few weeks before the circular firing squad begins.

We have some time to hash out the rinos from the conservatives without giving the MSM something to divide us in public.

Why does he assume he will get the position?
Chances are very good he won't, but if he does get it, he will be told he will be yanked if he doesn't get with the program.

"Spectre (like Bond) did nothing to help Bush. I would tell him to pound the sands of allah!"

And I would heartily second that!

If he doesn't get the chairmanship it's not like he can go to the Dems. :-)

Though he refused to describe the political leanings of the high court, Specter said he "would characterize myself as moderate; I'm in the political swim. I would look for justices who would interpret the Constitution, as Cardozo has said, reflecting the values of the people."

The lying swine.

Yeah, I thought his segment deserved its own thread!
He grew a pair over night.
We won't have the super majority, President Bush's selection of judges are reasonable and no need to suggest otherwise, etc., etc.

I'm thinking he is very happy Daschle is gone. Daschle may have been putting the hurt on him all these years and we didn't know it.

The Republican expected to...

Well the sodomites at the SF Chronicle can dream can't they?

What do gay and lesbian liberals have to worry about abortion ANYWAY? It's not as if any of them will be having any unwanted pregnancies.

If they are going to call us "breeders" then we should be the ones to push for breeding rights (including those rights of the infants).

We can thank Carl Rove for his support of Mr. Specter in the vain hope that he would deliver Pennsylvania.

Ya know- if it meant we lost a RINO- I wouldn't mind if he went over to the Democrats.

There was an effort among Pennsylvania Freepers to accomplish just that, for just the reasons you say, and they were savaged by the usual crowd of flying monkeys around here.

Ain't gonna happen! The PUBS are smart enough to know that if they don't perform on judges they will never be able to turn out again the 4 million evangelicals, that Rove spent 4 years trying to find and that put President Bush over the top. I live in IL. we had a governor who promised to end partial birth abortion and then reneged. There is no republican party in IL. now.

It's time for party discipline to prevail, maybe Delay should become a senator.

How can we help prevent Specter from doing this?

Vote him out of office. D'oh! We just reelected him. Nevermind.

I myself voted against him, despite being sternly told here that we couldn't afford to jeopardize control of the Senate. I wasn't expecting to be vindicated this soon.

How about Mr. Delay cuts PA out of the budget - for everything, since PA went to Kerry anyway, they have zip to lose. Or threaten to do that so Rick Santorum can strong arm him.

Dang right! We are on the road to restoring values to the way this nation is governed, and judges are one of the main problems right now.

Don't ever forget that Spectre was the one who concocted the "magic bullet" theory on Kennedy's death. I am convinced he was given a Senate seat for his service. It is way past time to retire this guy.

Well this in part is Bush's fault for not supporting the candidate who ran against Specter in the primary. I forget his name but he was pro-life.
